How to rot a tree stump?

I dig around them, then chainsaw it to about two or three inches above the ground. When they rot on their own for a couple years I chop them to ground level and rake the dirt over it.

 

Ha..I'd love to see you try and dig this stump out. I could probably charge admission.

 

I can dig your whole house out of the ground and move it across the street if you want.

time and effort. need a supply of lumber to build levers and a raising platform(s),
and a bunch of empty bucket for counterweights. it can be done by one person.

easy, no. fast, no. doable, yellz yes. same way Wally Wallington moves huge objects.

for stumps I use a spade, a hoe, a 6 foot prybar, and time. easy to walk a stump
out of a hole, just takes time. if it shakes when I whack it with the pry bar, I can dig it out.

 

Did no one else want to see the OP's truck tied to a tree? You guys are no fun!

 

A friend of mine once tried to winch an old hedge, bush etc.can't remember which. He was using a F250 and I swear you could see the whole truck bind when he tried to pull it. I imagine this was because he have if lifted real high. Anyways the bush didn't budge.

 

I had about a 2 foot diameter stump in my yard last year that the GF wanted gone. I dug down under one of the roots on one side and tied a tow strap to it. I hooked it to the taco and pulled until the root broke. Did the same thing on the other side. By then the stump was weak enough to tie onto and pulled it out. Now i fucked up the yard pretty bad but that stump was gone!

 

how old was the stump?

 

The house was built in '62 so im figuring about that old. The tree had been cut down probably 8 years ago.

 

Ive tried pulling some choke cherry trees and they dont move either. and this is mabye 2-3" diameter ones. Plus I couldnt get the chain to hold on the tree, it kept sliding up and off and the tree just stood there.

 

When I was young and hadn't destroyed my lower back yet I used to dig out stumps. 3 foot diameter mulberry stump took about 4 hours of digging/hacking with pulaski/levering out onto a dolly. It can be done. That being said, today I would just rent a mini-ex and save my spine.

 

My lower back has ddd and stuff like that kills me...

 

Had 2 large oaks come down this year in ice and wind storms. Dude wants 2500 to grind the stumps. Wow!
