They make tools to make destaking those easier and keep the threads intact. Best to replace the nut after.

Very true, not an item you should reuse. That's a cool tool, I've just been using an 1/8" punch.

 

I had it shipped without the flange on, the nut wasn't staked like that iirc.

 

Ah okay well if you have a fresh nut to go on there now it would be a good idea to stake it after torquing it down.

 

How would I do that? I have it torqued to the spec in the FSM.

 

Just take a punch or an old screwdriver and hit the lip of the nut over the notched portion of the bolt portion.... like this one

 

I got a new carrier bearing and nut so I just replaced both of em instead of using my old one. I'll stake it later.

Do I need to worry about greasing the Zerks with a grease gun? Gotta pick one up at Horror Freight.

 

No its easy if you have a gun that fits in there, super easy if the shaft is off the truck. It'll make sizzling bacon sounds as the air escapes then you'll see it force the old grease out and you can stop after a bit is forced out.

 

Check out the lock 'n lube on Amazon - it's an attachment for zerks - I've got one and it is good for noobs. Lol.

 

I don't even own a grease gun, gotta go pick one up. Should I go for the hand operated one or the pneumatic one?

Anything else has a Zerk fitting on the truck besides the driveshafts?

 

Hand trigger style is easiest to use imo. Once you start upgrading suspension components you'll need it for more stuff lol.

 

Hand op is best, chances are you'll eventually need it out of range of the air hose. Plus its super easy to use, unless you're a lube tech the pneumatic would be overkill haha

Cabin or engine?

 

Do you need a full on dryer unit or just a water reduction. The bronze element ones take away most moisture but not as much as one of those inline desiccant units.

 

I don't think 1st gens have cabin air filters.

I meant for a compressed air system, I bought their oil/water separator and an inline air filter.

I was planning on doing some painting but that won't be for a while. Originally I bought the drier for my sandblaster but I was told the sandblaster uses so much air it would render the drier useless.

 

Sorry to see that happened. I'm surprised the fender flare kept its shape like that.
