Important Message Light

So today I was out running errands and the message light popped up (the ! in the triangle). When I looked there was no message under the messages section.

After doing a search, I see this is typically a maintenance reminder - however, I have maintenance reminders turned off (or at least I have the reminder button un-highlighted).

When I got home, I turned the engine off, and then turned it back on, and the light is gone. Any idea what this could be? Is it still the maintenance reminder (I'm at 15,8xx miles).

But why am I getting it when I have the maintenance reminder button unchecked in the system? Is that for something else?

 

Check in the maintenance section of the head unit.... It could be a reminder to rotate tires, etc, etc....

 

Mine comes on every 5K miles no matter what the setting is. I have to clear it manually since I perform my own maintenance and at slightly different intervals than Toyota recommends.

Yeah don't think you can turn off the main one, just the head unit one.

 

Every 5,000 mi. Comes on about 4500. Just reset yourself. It's in the manual.

So is it not an exact mileage when the light comes on then? Mine came on at ~15,800.

 

Seems to be a bit random, but mine usually comes on around 500 prior to the 5k.

Remember, it's 5000 from where it was last set.

You have your reminders turned off. It’s not trying to remind you of anything. SDtaco4x4... your truck is trying to communicate with you.

 

When it is reset, that is when it starts the 5000 mile count. Reset at 15,800, light will blink a few times and go off when you start your truck at 20,300. Then at 20,800 it will stay on until you reset it. At anytime you reset it, it will start the count to 5,000 miles.

 

I get the same warning for the last 9 days (ODM 9388). I show it a picture of 6qt of oil, plead poverty and it goes away.
