Yea he’s been catching quite a few. He actually started tagging them. He told me he had tagged like 150 this year or something stupid.

Just get an inexpensive set up, a small fly box, flies, and some Tippett. Watch a few video's on YouTube.
Most online fly shops have drop down menu to pick your area, and time of year you are fishing to tell you what flies to get. Then go out and have fun! No need to spend a lot of money!

This is exactly what I want to hear. I imagine I could practice casting in my back yard. I looked into that link posted earlier, private lessons aren’t in the plan or joining a club either.

I mean a 9 foot 4 or 5 weight is pretty standard for an entry rod and Cabelas has some great starter rods. I first started with an Orvis clearwater entry level rod and it was great until I had enough confidence and need for a more expensive rod.

Dressing is to "waterproof" the fly to keep it floating.

If you dont have it the fly gets water logged pretty quick and it sinks. You can still catch stuff but some are made to float on top like a bug so you want it to float not sink. Some flies have weights made to sink that you dont need to put the dressing on.

This rig will toss big bass and redfish flies but is a little heavy for panfish (y’all call em brim down there )
If you're not planning on chasing reds (I think a boat is almost required lol) I’d step it down to a 7 or 6wt
    Free shipping right now >100$
Buy your flies and terminal tackle locally (not at a big box store)so u can get the right stuff and cultivate a relationship with the crusty gurus

A budget setup for sure but I can vouch for the rod and line anyway
Subtract 14$ from total cuz free shipping

5wt is gonna be real light for LM bass. If you keep the flys small it will work, you'll def have a good time fighting them. I use a 4wt for trout on small streams and it's great. I use a 6wt. on bigger rivers and some lakes. 8 or 9wt. on big water for stealhead and salmon. I like an 8 wt. for bass you can throw some good size flys, fish the weeds and still have enough rod to get the fish out. Have you checked Craigslist I have found a few good deals. Cabelas has some good deals too. Search on line too. If I find anything I'll post a link.
