That would be worth it if I go the tube design way. Part of me is thinking to go high flow log style to keep the weight down and easier to put up with abuse.

I've been pondering coating my compressor cover in clear, so it will be transparent.

Build a stronger support for the inherently wesker design, which flows better.

An mpg test would be pointless because it’ll vary for everyone here based on tune/fuel system/actual fuel used... its also probably one of the last things people are concerned about in terms of why they turbod Also the skinny pedal man

Lol i just can’t wrap my head around spending a bunch of money on things to pump more fuel faster into the block then be concerned with MPGs unless I’m wrong? But i also don’t daily my truck so i guess things like worrying about a commute to work or something could play into that being important.

If you're concerned about MPG's, but want power, you're trying to keep your cake and eat it too.

In the grand scheme of things, xx HP will generally equal xx MPG's with not enough variance to make a difference (excluding hybrid cars). Weather you make the power with a V8 or turbo 4 cylinder, its still burning about the same amount of fuel to make the power.

A turbo engine will generally have to burn a little more than a non turbo to reach power goals as you have to run turbos extra rich, however, the smaller displacement turbo engine will generally have a "lag" zone where the turbo isn't spooled and allow better MPG's than a larger non turbo engine at lower engine loads.

Really, the only way to increase power AND decrease MPG's is through a very efficient engine. Nissan has developed a Homogeneous charged compression ignition engine that basically fires like a diesel but runs on gas. I think they claim 30% more efficiency over the next best technology AND increased power.

According to my UltraGauge, I get about 19-20 mpg on the freeway. Around town is significantly less. Like 13-14 ish

More power will help the truck move around, less skinny pedal used to get up to speed is less fuel used. The way I want to go with my turbo set up is way different than yours.

Not exactly.... desiel make a good bit of power but have good mpg. Ls1 gets pretty good mileage. Ecoboost gets decent mileage with a turbo. My buddy's 5.7 hemi gets 22mpg.

Thank you, only one to answer my question

Getting an object of a certain mass up to a certain speed takes a certain amount of energy. The best way maximize MPG's is to find its maximum efficient RPM (even with variable valve timing, most vehicles have a certain max efficient RPM) and try to keep it there.

Less skinny pedal does not necessarily give better MPG's. When the TB is too closed for good air flow, the engine has to fight to pull the air through a smaller slit.

Case in point, when you are traveling at 60mph, you generally only need 30ish HP to maintain which means very little air flow into the engine. When you have a high displacement engine, the TB has to be almost closed to minimize the air flow from the huge sucking power of the larger engine. You lose a lot of MPG's because the engine is fighting to breath, which is why many manufacturers incorporate cylinder deactivation technology on their bigger engines.

You can't compare diesel to conventional gas. Ecoboost only makes good mileage if you drive it very very very slow and keep the turbos from spinning up. Most ecoboost owners get around 15-17 MPG's from what I've seen in Ford forums because they like the power. You gotta pay to play.

@GreeGunc didnt mean to sound like a dick.. I guess i just didn’t understand you’re application... are you planning on running a super small turbo?

Efficiency of design in Turbo components, combined with the VE of the engine and superb tuning will net you a subjective amount of good or bad gas mileage.

If @GreeGunc wants a fuel efficient engine with power only when needed, I think a turbo engine is the way to go. If he wants power for towing, hauling, or hooning, a bigger displacement N/A engine would give more efficient and reliable power with better MPG's.

My turbo dropped MPG's slightly but if I drive hard, I see averages anywhere between 10 and 15 combined.

Quick update to get this thread back on its feet- all IC piping is taken care of, all fittings/adapters/couplers are sitting together and tested, air filter is on turbo, PCV breather is purchased, and I got a small roll of heater hose, as well as silicone hose. Hoping to maybe install it next weekend after New Year's!

The silicone IC couplers were the biggest pain to get, because of the delayed shipping. But if anyone cares, I had to get:
1x: 2" to 2.5" 90 degree coupler (to go from compressor housing to IC piping)
1x: 2.5" to 2.75" 90 degree coupler (to go from IC piping by MAF, down into throttle body)

All I need is my buddy's lift to be free for the weekend, and we should be ready to roll! This damn NY cold is starting to get to me though lol

Also, the air filter I got for the winter makes the turbo look even smaller than it is already :(
