Got a Sony A6000 for my birthday gift to take pics of my camping trips instead of my iPhone6. Now just need to learn how to use it. Anyone have good recommendations on how to videos or websites?

    Just the basics
    And the manual.

I just got a refurbed G5X for my P&S camera. Looking forward to trying it out in the wilds.

Can someone tell me if this is a bad idea:

I like repurposing stuff. And it just seems cool, but if it’s not practical in the field then I’ll move on.

Good way to fuck up your cabinetry.

Best, cheapest thing I’ve used is a tea light candle tin and alcohol.

I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not, but I love watching what folks come up with.

I’ve got several different “penny stoves” that I’ve made. Most work OK. Extremely light, not very stable. My favorite designs use a carbon wool wick.

Do it. I used to have 7-8 cottles laying around for such stoves but after a few years of moving them I finally decided I probably wasn’t going to get around to it. I have a mini Gram Weenie stove which is pretty much identical to that video, it works great.

Alcohol stoves are cheap fun, and I enjoy the near complete silence of them running. Makes boiling some water a very zen experience compared to an iso jet burner.

Wind is a bigger factor with alcohol stoves, so make your own windscreen with a few layers of aluminum foil, heavy duty foil works great if you have it. I use yellow HEET, 99% of the time.

Only thing I’d be mindful of is some pressurized stove designs can be a little dangerous (or a lot dangerous) if they’re not built correctly, so when testing for the first burn make sure you’re outside and the immediate area is not capable of burning or at least isn’t a fire hazard. Middle of a driveway works good since concrete doesn’t mind burning fuel.

It is an okay stove. No pot stand required.

For some fun watching someone, very impressive, making a stove look here:
    https://www.youtube.com/user/tetkoba
He makes it look really easy.

Shug has some great videos on alcohol stoves...

He also appreciates the quietness of an alcohol stove.

After retiring from my guiding career im finally getting back into the woods for a 5 day trip on the AT in SW NC.

Pulling my pack out of the closet and getting a whiff of the smell of my guiding career. I’m getting giddy
