If you like those two, you should go ride "The Ribbon" in Grand Junction. Like Gooseberry Mesa but with bigger rock rolls, etc

it does have one MASSIVE rock roll in it...

This drop was where I slipped a pedal on the landing and hit a tree. 3 broken ribs and 8 stitches later, we finished day 1 of a 4 day trip. Still rode the last 2 days!

You and @ccallen need to trek down to Utah in the spring, and we can all be hooligans.

This is the reason to add un/under-insured motorist coverage to your policy if you don't already have it. It'll suck to have to claim some of it against your insurance, but it's better than paying totally out of pocket or just eating the loss.

and add "zero glass" while you are at it. it was super cheap for me, and gives me a free windshield when I inevitably get it spider-webbed on a trip.

i had just replaced that windshield on my car not even 2 weeks before that trip, and had to get a new Cat in it.... naturally you have to throw money at a car before it gets totaled

Colorado puts down a lot of sand mixed with tiny gravel when it snows, to add traction. While it's better than the salt in the midwest that causes anything metal to first weld itself together before it rusts into nothing, it also means you need a new windshield every couple of years. That coverage pays for itself the first time you need a new windshield that has an electric heat coil built into it.

I am a very happy 1up hitch rack user. And I'm scheming to get a single tray roof rack version to put on my KB voodoo bed bars (I have a plan to trailer a raft and use the bike to get back upstream, so the hitch rack won't work for this plan). I searched this thread, but every reference to 1up is to the hitch rack.

Does anyone use the 1up roof rack (https://www.1up-usa.com/product/roof-rack/) on bed bars, specifically the KB Voodoo hi rise?

I'm curious if people bolted directly through the KB bars, or around them using the brackets from 1up (there's some schematics in a link from the link I pasted).

I'm not really interested in the KB voodoo bike tray, as I don't want to take my front wheel off.

^^ I don't have experience with this setup (I do have a 1Up hitch rack) but I would think the 1Up bracket with 2 bolts per crossbar would provide a bit more security; in case one bolt loosens, the other one may hold the trays to the crossbar adequately. Redundancy is a good thing when you're hauling thousands of dollars worth of bikes. Though of course you still have the attachment at the other end of the tray.

I have two 1UP roof racks, had them on two types of Thule bars, about 2000 trouble free miles with them, I imagine they would be fine with the Voodoo rack.

So who’s got the scoop on riding Moab, what are the trails and camp spots to hit?

I’ve done some riding in SLC and Gooseberry but this will be my first time riding Moab. We’ll be out there camping for 5 days the last week of April. There will be two trucks on this trip so shuttling a few rides is on the table.

Hey man, there is a bunch of good BLM camping land at and around the klondike bluffs trail head, there is a Northern trail head before the airport that is good to camp at. the riding can be accessed from camp if you want, The riding at the north end of the system is full of technical ups and some fun descents. there is enough riding to keep you occupied for a day there probably. If you enjoy a little more gnarly trails i would suggest a captain ahab techy up and fun descent, or Jacksons (high exposure descent and techy). if you are looking for a SUPER easy trail there is always the slickrock trail. this can also offer up some fun side hits. there is camping around that area as well.

Moab has a variety of stuff. As said before, it depends on what you like. You will almost always find yourself in loose rocks, steps/ledges or slickrock on Moab trails. Very different from Gooseberry.

    North of town:
    • Klonzo trails has some very fun loops and isn't very busy. Free camping out there, too.
    • Bar-M/Brand trails are a little easier than Klonzo, but still fun. Lots of free camping out here, too (Willow Springs).
    • The Mag 7 trails totally rule! I had so much fun on these this year! You can link up to other trails from here, too like Gemini Bridges, Portal, ETC.
    Moab proper:
    • Porcupine Rim is a Moab rite of passage (in my book). The last few miles on singletrack down to the river is THE BEST trail in Moab.
    • The Whole Enchilada is a long, hard day. The upper portion will still be closed in April (most likely), but the lower sections could be accessible. Try to get on at Hazard Co or Kokopeli. UPS & LPS are my favorite sections of WE. Porcupine Rim is the last section of the WE.
    • Slickrock is OK. Do the practice loop and see if you want miles & miles of the same thing.
    • The new stuff in Amasa Back is super technical & rocky, but still fun. Capt Ahab is the most popular downhill. Jackson a close second. Use the new climbing trail "Hymasa" instead of chugging up the Amasa Back rd.
Check out this site for nice trail descriptions and photos: http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/trails/idx-moab.htm
