I know little or nothing about Go Pro cameras but the SR camera mount has me intrigued. Would the lowest priced Session camera fit in the windshield mount? Would it be worth making some basic driving videos? I saw one on Amazon for about $150. That's about all I'd want to spend just to fart around with one. :help:

The mounting system should be the same.

As far as driving videos, I personanlly do not like videos of "through the windshield" I prefer going with a buddy and have them film what we are doing. The windshield view provides a limited perspective but its completely up to you.

Like what Joe said above - mount will be fine. Note that the mount is just the mount so the camera would need to come down after each use unless you wire a harness up there (which is doable but a bit annoying).

They are a lot of fun if you have scenery, I have used my Hero2 and Hero5 on my brother's Mustang a lot in the black hills. Always had one running on our Dodge Journey rental in Hawaii too.

Suction cup (with a safety boot lace) and you can stick it just about anywhere. I have caught some neat video busting snowdrifts.

I have never been around a Session, I do think they all use the same mounts and mounting accessories though.

It is nice to just let the camera run and live in the moment too. I have gotten caught where I watch something really cool thru a 1.5" LCD screen instead of watching what was happening right in front of me.

That does sound like a better idea but alas, I don't have any buddies:sadviolin:.
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a Session camera and a Hero?

    I'll be your buddy.

Negative, I dont use either, I've owned two GoPro's. One was destroyed which I repaired with Chinese parts from Ebay and the other was lost in the Cascades off Early Winter Spires so I said the hell with it.

I assume the only difference would be features, like stabilization, battery life, recording quality selections, etc

If you're looking for a decent little camera on the cheap (@ $50), I've had good luck with this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/Cymas-Underw...70+Degrees+Wide-angle+Lens+and+16+Accessories

Compared to my buddie's GoPro, it seemed to catch a wider field of view. I don't think it would hold up as well, but it was a good price point to see how much I liked having an on-board camera.

I agree that shooting through the windshield doesn't look as good, but it allowed me to enjoy the Shafer Trail in Canyonlands more than I did while I was driving it (EASY trail, but I HATE heights!).

Buddy got me this for Christmas...

    https://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-W...e=UTF8&qid=1514498386&sr=8-5&keywords=hd+cool

It doesnt have the most catchy name, but it does what its supposed to, it's under $50 and it comes with literally everything but a charger and a sd card.

Thru the windshield is great for on road, it is neat to go back and do neat drives again. For offroading you probably won't get much of what is going on though.

However it is cool to stick them on the sides and underneath and watch stuff happen down there.

All about branding. The parts in this are the exact parts in other "high end" models. Albeit, a go pro is still better with functionality. But if you dont plan on being youtube sensation or flying a drone to get some high res video on mars, this will do just fine for a dash cam, at least it's fine for my needs.

We all enjoyed the video I got when we went to Moab last year. Like I said, some of them thought I was able to get a wider field of view than they did with their GoPro.

My only complaint about mine was my fault, we were driving into the sun most of the day on Shafer so shooting through the windshield didn't work as well as planned.

If I can find a way to mount it outside next time safely I'll do that, I think it might do a little better.

I know I don't have my Hero5 set as wide as it will go because I really don't like the fisheye effect.

I’ve got the session. I just wanted something basic to hang up on that mount in the spirit of hanging something on that mount. It doesn’t have a screen, but I control it all from my phone anyway, which can be neat, I can have the go pro in another room, see what it sees, though my phone, someplace else. Which is perfect for when I’m trolling my girlfriend and want to relive all of those moments. Pointing it in the direction of travel as well as in the cab have their own awesome merits depending on what sort of chicanery and tomfoolery you get down with. It was a good buy.

Would have gotten a session myself if my buddy didn't get my $50 clone. So far the clone is perfect, if it ever decides to dump out i may consider looking into other clones, or just go for the session.
