You are correct...this is The Splinter Group's second go at making whiskey. I really like it...I'm not savvy enough to tell you all the different notes I pick up on the pallet throughout the tasting, but this site does pretty good summaries and rankings of whiskey:

As if spending money on the truck wasn’t expensive enough, reading all your guys’ posts on good whiskeys has got me running to buy them just to try em out. Certainly doesn’t help that they’re not cheap lol

Hit up Total Wine if you have one. We hit one in Las Vegas last week on the way to our new place and was able to get some samples. That alone turned us on to a few new ones.

Good deal. I use the Distiller app to track whiskies and get quick recommendations when at the store. Love that app!

I'll keep my eyes peeled for the Slaughter House.

I meant to ask, do you drink a lot of Irish whiskies? I'm looking for some recommendations. I've had the standards (Jameson Black Label/Caskmates, Tullamore Dew, etc.) and some others like Connemara and Redbreast, but otherwise haven't ventured out much in the Irish world.

Just had Buffalo Trace out at dinner. Not a fan. It was my first time trying it and I did get it on rocks, but didn't like it

Its a good bourbon, but best as a mixer for something like juleps.

    Good lord.
I’m no expert but I tried that once and got immediate uncontrollable heartburn. I think it’s best used to clean the chicken shit out of waterers.

I’d agree. Good bourbon, not so great on the rocks.

A friend gave me a fifth of Ranger Creek .36, it's the only bourbon made in Texas. I was really suprised at just how good it is. Goes down smooth over ice with a tiny splash of water. Another one I recommend.

Good new one to look out for. (PS there’s about 5 or 6 distilleries in TX)

Thanks, I know there are several that make whiskey but was told they were the only one that makes bourbon. Im not from Texas so it's still a new favorite even if it's not the only one made there.
