Gave GFC a call and spoke with Graham I believe. Super helpful answered all my annoying fanboy questions. This camper in the works seems super legit. Very interested in it.

That was you! Thanks for the call man, happy to answer questions anytime (though after hours I prefer email). To answer the question in this thread, the 500 deposit is a deposit on the $5000 Platform which includes the canopy and the camper.

If preordered, it reserves your spot in line (which is adding up quick) and also gets you free shipping. It is fully refundable until we call you to pay the remainder and start building one for your vehicle.

Starting in February if all goes well with the Baja test rig. But no later than March. Barring any major surprises, we're ahead of our planned schedule.

Just a quick update on the build. We've been working lots of late nights to get the GFC Platform Camper ready for Baja testing. Got the BP-51s dialed down to 10mm preload and the ride is way way better as expected. Have compression and rebound set at 3 for now but will play with it once in Baja and fully loaded. Hoping to pick up wheels and tires in LA on the way down.

We did just put the GFC Platform on though. The camo fabric is just for the prototype, final versions will be gray or dandelion yellow/orange. Had to use the free stuff to test the new tent pattern. Thanks to Bomber Products for letting us use his warm car bay for the install.

How did you decide on the amount of space between the top of the cab and the camper extension? Does that account for bed flex/articulation?

It does indeed. We gave it a bit over an inch above the shark fin, which is at least 3" above the interference on the roof corners due to the slope. Because the frame is fully boxed and the tacoma bed is short, there are no issues with frame beaming that will cause longitudinal interference. The tacoma frame doesn't flex torsionally much at all, so the allowance we have is a lot more than is necessary. This was proved out with our testing...

Whats your overall height above the bed? I'm still searching for a good option that will fit in my condo parking garage :)

We are currently ~7.5" above the shark fin. This may end up a bit lower (maybe an inch) on the production unit.

What about from the top of the bed rail? I don't have a shark fin on my 2nd gen so can't compare to that.

The Baja testing mission is begun and the build isn’t even over. I am currently waiting here at Outlaw off-road in Santa Ana getting some Method bead locks and Yokohama tires installed. But while I wait, how about a couple of photos wherein I a) access something from the side somewhere in the desert:

    561D48D7-FF16-4F90-BE26-83FA6FA5EE19.jpg

And b) later that evening camped under the Giant Rock:

    BA6240EF-290D-450C-A945-CAE4DCF83142.jpg

With the load of the camper and Baja stuff the Deaver u402 stage Ones are perfect. They ride really well. But hauling five extra wheels and tires across town made the ride turn to poop. In a very serious way. Gotta get the springs right for your weight.

Because they get powdered separately as all the tents are the same. Only the lower portio. Varies by truck. And yes, the tent frame extruded aluminum is gray.
