PRERUNNER 4WD SWAP - DAY 2​

Making progress! I have all the armor removed, the driveshaft removed, the complete 2WD spindles/knuckles off, and I'm working on removing the transmission right now.

At this rate I won't be 4WD till next year! (no pun intended)

Bribed my friends with food to remove the skidplates and nerf bars. Ain't nobody got time 'fo dat. (That's one of my buddies in the first photo)





Staying organized is important. Every piece of hardware I remove goes in a labeled plastic bag.

 

Replaced the plastic hood stay holder. Here is the part number if anyone else needs it.
It was 7$

 

You gotta get on the hood struts man, best upgrade I've done on the truck. I swear.

 

Did you use the redline kit or DIY?

 

Yup, Redline. There was a group buy a few yrs ago. Took me about a yr to install too...but once I did I felt dumb for not doing it sooner.

 

I agree! the redline kit was so easy to install too.

 

Any chance you have the model/part number for those hood struts? The only ones I can ever find are for 2nd gen.

Went to alignment shop and they tried quoting me 700 for lower control arm bushings and an alignment, looks like a have a project for this weekend

 

The bushings are a bit of a pain in the ass but they are definately do-able. Use the ball joint press you can rent at O'Reillys... and also get the 4x4 ball joint adapter kit. Just press the entire bushing towards the outside on each side of the LCA. Once I got them under a lot of tension I smacked the lip that hangs over the LCA eye using a big f'n hammer and a punch. They popped right out.

If you have a porta power that will fit between the arms of the LCA, that would be even better.
