I've constantly read one of the best ways to get better gas mileage is to get a scan gauge to monitor my mpg's. I've never had anything like this before and I'm just trying to find out some information about them.
First off are they actually worth it? No sense in getting one if its not going to pay for itself. Are they easy to mount? And are they relatively easy to use?
From what I understand about them so far, the only difference is that scan gauge displays transmission temp and ultra gauge cannot. I also have read that people like the display on ultra gauge better.
Thanks in advance for any input

If you're staring at it enough to improve your gas mileage, you're probably going to crash. It's fun to look at the difference in gas mileage between 75mph and 60mph, but beyond that it's most valuable for watching trans temp while towing a trailer. That's the main reason I bought my Scangauge.

I have an ultragauge because it was a lot less expensive than the scangauge but had 95% of the features that the scangauge does. It’s pretty easy to use and to set up, and it only has 4 buttons, all on the back. I’d prefer the buttons on the front like the scangauge has but it’s not a dealbreaker. They’re simple to install (just plug it into your obd2 port) and then mount it wherever you want to. The ultragauge can be bought with a variety of mounts for various locations and I’m sure the scangauge can as well.

I believe the ultragauge is made in the USA and the scangauge isn’t but I may have that backwards

The Ultra Gauge MX 1.3 has transmission temperature as one of the options, that is about the only reason that I would have chosen the ScanGuage over the Ultra Gauge.

PS: I have a ScanGuage BlendMount if you are interested in it, $60 shipped.

Ok, ignorant question, but do our trucks actually have a transmission temperature sending unit? I would assume if they do, the manual transmissions don't? Mine's a six speed manual.
