Yep. Online ordering is already shut down. As far as background checks and registration, that doesn't go I to effect until Jan 2019

First: be careful where this thread goes guys. Better to keep politics out of it so we can at least share some useful information with eachother.

Word on my end (from my ammo supply shop) is that background checks will not take effect until later (2019 sounds about right to me). For now you can still got to a store and buy bulk without any problems, just can't order online. Can't even order online from your local shop and pick up in-store. Essentially the transaction has to happen in person. You can't handle the ammo until you purchase it (although this might be a sotre policy rather than part of the law- not sure).

Once "background checks" take effect, all you're doing is paying a yearly fee and a one-time "check" for a card, much like a HSC. IIRC it was around $50 per year. Other than that it may have been played up more than it needed to be.

Are they requiring background checks on ammo now?

No backgrounds that's what the card will be for and the ammo will be registered with the doj. Also the no handling the ammo until purchased is law not policy.

Also sharing of ammo is also illegal.

Not to get political or tinfoil hat but sadly now that they can finally control the flow of ammo I would expect a per bullet tax on the next 5 years. They've wanted to do this in the past but had no good way of enforcing it. Now that the flow will be controlled and monitored I am expecting it.

I'm gonna start doing this. I have several 38 cal pistols (because I like that caliber) and ammo has cost a fortune for it when I can find it.

What's a good set up for reloading? I'm a nooby at this.

One time when you apply for your buyer card. Just like your safety cert card. Not a big deal.

    Agreed.

The fact the cheapest ammo in-store is around 50 cents per round for 5.56/.223 prior to all the new laws. Whereas online (good brass) ammo is 28-30 cents/round. So, add the cost of purchasing an annual license (which you will then be placed on a centralized list that tracks your ammo purchases) to purchase ammo PLUS paying for a background check to the already rediculously high price of ammo. At those prices you can expect to pay at least (naively assuming the cost of ammo won’t go up) an extra thousand dollars per 5k rounds of just AR. Not even considering pistol ammo.

So you are correct. It is a big deal because it is absolutely rediculous.

It's a gun tax. The Supreme court would be interested in hearing a challenge in this case.

    yep..
The Lee Challenger single stage kit is a great affordable setup. RCBS rock chucker is the next step up so to speak. I have the Lee and love it.

Sad and worrisome to see the trend of how things are going these days.

If you don’t think you’re already on a list because you have a Firearm Safety Certificate then you’re sadly mistaken.

Whining about it here won’t help anything. I’d bet none of us here wanted this and we all voted against it. Bitching about it here will solve nothing but clutter a thread meant to be educational and helpful.
