Tundra came with 3/4 wore out Duratracs. Should be enough tread for pavement you would think, still above the tread wear indicator.
I was blown away with the incredible horsepower that little 4.7 would produce when I drove it home. I really had to go easy on the skinny pedal or the tires would chirp every time I would start off from a stop sign or traffic light. For about a week i drove around town with them, squealing the tires with joyous abandon.
Then, with winter approaching, I thru down for a set of cheap Deans tires.
I was no longer able to squeal the tires from a stop sign or traffic light. In fact, I really gotta put a foot in it to get them to squeal now.
Cheap side wall aside, the tractive ability of the Duratrac, is shit.

So... I guess it's leaning a little towards Dynapro, a few complaints from you guys about Coopers but nothing to really scare me away from them. So I figured I'd take a look at the price and.... the difference is negligible lol.

There didn't used to be a winter or a defender.
I had a set of M/S2 on my ranger for 118k miles when I sold it.
I then had some used MS/2 on the Tacoma when I first went to 285s.
They still had good tread but the sidewalls were starting to checker because they were so old (like @Gramps )
I bought some new A/T2s and defied countless pumas and cravices until that fateful day that will live in infamy, 6/1/16 *never forget*
They no longer offer the AT/2 in 285/75/16 which is the sole reason I'm running a different tire now.

Thanks for making me cry this morning.

The MAXX is a great tire on road too. Very quiet. Although some have experienced fast wear on their tires so that might be a reason to shy away from them. Mine are wearing just fine though.

I had Cooper AT3 on my gen 2 - great for the first 10K then a total pos afterwards. Never again.
Had the Goodyear oem on my gen 3 - nice for the grocery store. wore out at 22k. Never again.
Considered Duracraps, Maxx - I am an outcast. Went with Falken WildPeak a/t3w. Great so far. Time will tell.....

With all this tire talk i might as well ask. What's a cheap winter tire I can get for my Honda Accord? Selling the Tacoma and driving the Honda to work for the winter. I only have a 1/2 mile commute so don't need the best. Just something that will work. Also keep an eye out for a 3rd gen 4Runner for me, it will be the new trail rig. Thanks

I've got Yokohama Iceguards on the Subaru. They've been excellent tires and are quite a bit cheaper than Blizzacs IIRC.

Which also brings up a good point, all this talk about which AT is best in the snow is a little comical. All of them are marginal on packed snow and ice compared to a proper snow tire. You're way better off getting whatever AT/MT you want to wheel with in the summer, and have sidewall lugs that suite you (except BFGs, they take a pound of weight to balance, @Madjik_Man blows the sidewall on a little root, and they can't even hook up on slickrock :p). Then buy a second set of cheap wheels and run actual snow tires in the winter.

You'll be better off in both seasons with no compromises like Duratracs.

I haven’t had that issue at all. My truck is used as both a daily and off road truck. I put about 25,000-30,000 miles a year on it with about 90% of that commuting miles between here and Wyoming and Nebraska. Bought them last December and have run them for a year now. They don’t grip as well as an AT but I’ve never thought they sucked in any snow condition? I’m perfectly happy with them in all conditions.

There are the people who love duracraps and then the ones who hate them. I am in the group that hates them.

All reviews I've been hearing of the falkens have been pretty ehh so far, only time will tell.

I've stopped buying winter tires. Research has shown they're worse in every scenario except actually on the snow and ice. Maybe you have have a lot more snow on the road up there than we do and if that's the case I have a set of winter tires/wheels I'll part with :D

Yeah, i pinch flatted and then drove on it while flat. Your weak sidewalls didn't even take a pinch flat impact just sliced like butter.
