TRD Pro Grille for $140?

I’m waiting for mine from areyoushop too. As long as the edges aren’t messed up like the one posted earlier, I’ll just stick the letters on, paint and clear it. I’ll be happy with that. Hopefully it shows up some day.

 

People on here talking about just buying the real one, you could save alot more and just get a cali raised led faux grill

Got mine from areyourshop today. Mine is a one piece with the stick-on letters. I am totally ok with it. Hopefully the letters dont fall off.... The glue on the rear of the letters seems strong enough. I may install the grill tomorrow or the next day. Hopefully the OEM one comes out without damage so I can always swap back if the new grill falls apart....

 

For the 2018 owners, what size did u end up cutting the plexiglass?

 

Honestly at $140 you really shouldn't be complaining. A simple blade to trim the flashing and a little flat black paint for the T and the A and you will never know the difference between a $140 grille and a $400 grille. $260 for at most an hour of your time should be well worth it.

I have parked side by side with an OEM one and my buddy who owns it was shocked it wasn't OEM.

 

I would love to save $260. That’s why I got the fake. My ocd won’t let me live with this on a $40k truck. I was hoping to get a “good” one from my seller. 2 days before receiving it people started reporting quality issues and the fact that it was totally different from the description. If I would have got the one people were getting a week ago I’m sure it would be on the truck.

 

We all own $35k+ trucks that almost all have some type of issue with (be it a recall, ill fitting rear bumper, throttle noise etc). And we are on here complaining about flaws in a discounted Chinese grill that was purchased with the entire intent of getting an expensive product at a ridiculously cheap price by comparison.

Trust me, I fully understand everyone's sentiment that they purchased a 2 piece grill and are receiving a 1 piece grill. I used to work for eBay/PayPal for a number of years, unless their rules have changed on SNAD (Significantly not as described) claims, anyone who submits a dispute to eBay over not receiving a 2 piece and getting a 1 piece instead could be in for a sour result. eBay will view it that you received the product and that you will need to work with the seller to resolve any disputes.

Personally, all sellers on eBay that are generally selling items that are resulting in complaints and disputes from multiple buyers, will be required to submit invoices from their suppliers to eBay and will probably have a 10% portion of all sales retained in their account to handle any disputes. Having viewed these invoice receipts for YEARS I would be shocked if they are not all from the same supplier for every seller that is selling these grills on eBay. The fact that they switched from a 2 piece grill to a one piece grill is more likely than not because of copyright reasons. Everyone knows that China is the fake capital of the world when it comes to knocking off copyrights. However, if you get to a certain point sales wise, the Chinese government will begin to look into it. By changing slight things such as selling something that says OYOT with separate T and A can get them out of a bind of selling TOYOTA in a separate piece. It sucks for everyone who really wanted the 2 piece, but these merchants were in the business of selling and shipping you a pro grill, which they did, if they don't have them anymore, and you're seriously that upset about a discount purchase, then sell it or return it (return shipping is on buyers dime in eBay's eyes, seller sold a grill and delivered a grill).

Not calling anyone out, or trying to piss anyone off, just trying to give some perspective into the way eBay works in the background.

 

I wonder if the grille molds are starting to wear causing a lower quality grille. It happens with brick molds.

 

100000% this. It's a knock off and illegal to import in the first place. The original 2 piece was a way to try and get around that (read: to try and break the law without getting caught). After the 1 piece was no longer feasible. Then the separate letters.

You KNOW Toyota is trying to fight this too. They aren't going to take knock offs laying down anymore than any other business.

It's really like complaining about the quality of bootleg video stream or fake Rolex. Caveat emptor.

 

I was wondering that also. I think one person said they were going to seal in a clear coat. Contemplating the same.

Here's the latest tracking info on my recamera grill. I was going to wait until my delivery date passed if I dont receive my Grill before opening a dispute case. I'm thinking I may want to do that now if it's been demolished?

I think mine was supposed to be delivered by 1/4/18 im not sure though because when I go to my listing it shows as being delivered. That's probably the reason they send the small gift. I'm going to wait until next week and watch my tracking info. If it doesn't show it's in the U.S. by then I'm filing a dispute.

There is one negative review regarding the Grill:

Yea. I made a case a few days ago and eBay got back with me. They want me to return the “grill” prior to refunding me... I think that’s why they send the small gift because all eBay sees is the order being delivered.

 

Yeah I already clear coated it. Did it the day that it arrived with matte clear and it looks amazing. Snow, sun, rain, salt etc so far and you wouldn't even know it.

I also used RTV silicone on the back of the letters to ensure they stayed on.

 

I think maybe since I'm a designer I tend to look at little stuff like that. If it doesn't bother you that much then it's all that matters.

 

So paint it.
Problem solved.

I'll get around to it when it's not 5 degrees outside. The form is exactly the same.

 

My grill showed up a day early from areyourshop-a. No burs, no scuffs, no blemishes at all. Beyond pleased.
