It's terrible what they're doing to trucks these days in the name of fuel economy. I'm half-assed searching for a new one now but am really disappointed in the current model offerings. They all look nice and ride incredibly smooth just putting around town but I'm not really a huge fan of Ferd's new 10 speed tranny, GM and Dodge are close behind with 8 speeds. The new tranny's are clunky and I know it's all in the name of MPGs.

My Chevy is clunky. I hate it. Only in stop and go traffic. I brought it back to the dealer and they said the driveshaft needs to be greased. I greased it and it went away for a week. I now just throw it in tow mode when in traffic and it’s smooth. Big disappointment. All my other chevys never had this issue. Oh well I’ve had it since August and put 25k on it.

The 3.5NA that I test drove was depressingly underpowered. It'd probably be fine in a 2wd single cab short bed that never towed, but for anything else I can't understand why somebody wouldn't upgrade to the 2.7 for the extra $800

Look at the complaints with the 3G Taco, same deal. That's the sole reason I went MT (or the sole reason I used to justify, at least :D)

Unfortunately, the only full size left that you can get with a stick is a Ram with the Cummins engine. I'd consider it, but I'm not sure I can come to grips with owning a diesel for what my intended use will be. I'd love to own it, just doesn't make sense financially.

My next truck I want to be a 2500 with a ferncy Fisher Vee plow, and will likely be a diesel. I'd be buying used the next time around, so I'd want the diesel to help hold value in the long-term, not just for the power and the grunty noises.

The new diesels don't have the grunty noises they used to. I was sitting next to a new one and was shocked how quiet it was. The emissions crap has really cut down on the amount of clattering you hear out of them.

Does Ahuimanu mean something in Polynesian? Or did somebody sneeze when they were writing down the name of the town?

It wouldn't be a new one; I'd go out West where there's no salt on the roads and buy a pre-urea truck. But the new ones definitely are crazy quiet. A guy here at the warehouse just dumped $60k on a new Duramax and it's just as quiet as a gas motor at idle.

You'd have to go a ways back to get a pre-urea truck and also before they were tuning them terribly to cut down on emissions also. Going after that old 12 valve Cummins?

2011 was the first year of DEF for Ford and GM, Dodge was 2013. But I'd probably be looking at the last generation of the 5.9, or possibly the last of the 6.7's before they started putting Urea in them (back when Chrysler was fibbing about their emissions and telling the EPA that the truck's automatic REGEN was enough  ). I'm not too worried about the factory detune levels; I can't even begin to count the number of tune programs available for diesels these days.

Pass. I'd rather have cold and sunny than hot and rainy.

    72* is not hot

Edit; but I'd agree with you if you were talking about 92* and rainy
