My garage is full so will have to wait till summer, but looks very clean under on the frame, so I have high hopes,looks like it was restored at one time, will be a fun 2 seater this summer once i get it running

 

Hey John, I'm planning to buy a supercharger within the next few days and thought who else to ask but the guy with hundreds of miles with one
URD has a sale going on if you buy the charger with the 7th injector, but they also suggested for me to buy what "they" call plug and play harness for the ecu. Is this correct? Do I really need this? They are selling it for $200.
URD also suggested for me to take my truck to a shop and have them do a cleaning to the injectors, and lastly they said "you have to run the toyota fuel filter" it's what they recommend.
My truck is sitting at 120k and I changed my fuel filter 1 month ago with a wix.

 

If you have 120k on the motor the fuel injectors don't need cleaning. It's a suggestion since the Intake will be off and to make sure there are no issues. I don't have a 7th injection setup so not sure on the harness setup. I have heard the setup is pretuned from URD but I see lots of people with problems with the "pretuned setup" and it has to be modified with a computer. The fuel filter should be a Toyota item.
Try and always stay with OEM part if possible. It seams that if you are at sea level the ping issues are
more of a problem even with the stock pulley. If your higher like me at 6000 feet less problems and I run the methonal with a 2" pulley, this kit worked perfectly for me. If I kept the stock pulley I don't need any fuel upgrades, But all these 3.4 motor reactions are different for some reason when the supercharger is put on. There are motors that ping ALOT and then there are motors that are not ping happy like mine. You definitely need the cooler plugs.
If you have an automatic transmission seams there are more issues then the standard

What plug and play harness? Are they referring to the piggyback control unit that comes with the 7th injector? That's supposed to be part of the kit, you can't run the 7th injector without its own computer unit. Don't know what other harness they could be referring to?

 

The supercharger itself is very easy, you just need to know where all the vacuum hoses connect.
Make sure you have a diagram. The first time will take you about 2 hours or more because you will not know what your doing right away. The ECU piggy back not sure as it still needs to be tuned probably.
I can take my supercharger off in 20 minutes and install it in an hour or less.
Once you know what needs to be done it's a breeze

 

Gadget said it was a ecu harness pre programmed by them and is the closes to plug and play you will get. So am I right to assume I will have to tune this system?

 

Cool, I definitely want to do my self, just so I can learn how to maintain it myself if need be. The plug you cut on yours for easy oil replacement, would I have to do the same on the 2nd gen chargers? Or does it have it already.

 

I'm still a little confused if he's referring to the 7th injector harness or something else...the 3.4l supercharger doesn't require a separate ECU tune like the 2005+ Tacoma superchargers do. If you're only running the supercharger and nothing else (no fuel mods), then it's just a 'bolt-on and go' kind of mod.

The 7th injector kit comes with a piggyback module that controls when and how the 7th injector works; it comes with a tune already programmed into it that they claim works for most trucks, but you can custom tune it yourself with their software as well.


Also, I've been running a Wix brand fuel filter for over a year now and it works great...don't think you "need" to stick with the Toyota brand but they aren't that expensive anyhow. The 7th injector kit should also come with a Walboro 190lph fuel pump (bigger than the stock Toyota one, necessary if you're running the 7th injector). If you aren't running any fuel mods or a smaller pulley, the stock Toyota fuel pump works just fine.

 

No if you have the 2gen, unless you want to make it a little easier on your self. But no need

 

@04yota I'd look into the methanol injection kits as well like what @1997tacomav6 is running, I kind of wish I had looked more into that before I went with the 7th injector (it's considerably cheaper and does a better job of cooling the supercharger than the 7th does), however the 7th is easier to hide from smog/state inspections if that's something you have to consider where you live. Neither one is smog legal in most states that care about that sort of thing, but I snuck the 7th injector past the CA inspection a couple months ago with no issues...just have to hide the piggyback unit up behind your glovebox or somewhere else discreet.

 

@1997tacomav6 what kind of clutch kit are you running on your truck?

 

Honestly one of my worries with the methanol here in Jersey is that currently the weather is colder than a witch's tit. The blue stuff easily freezes up here in the winter. The 7th is just plain and simple more gas

 

If you have the methanol system all you need to do is just have water in your tank and no methanol and will pass just as a normal engine

 

If you use the snow boost juice it's 50/50 methanol but the 7th injection system is less maintenance
