Got a couple of these for Christmas and I must say I'm quite impressed. 1) They are super light. 2) I was able to consolidate multiple smaller boxes into just two of these. But they're still small enough to put in a jacket or shirt pocket. 3) I love the fact that there are no latches and the magnets are quite strong. 4) They float - nuff' said.

So I'm thinking about going back to a vest for pond fishing out of my canoe. The ling back is perfect for moving water where I'm moving around a lot, but in a canoe, I'm leaning towards having things more accessible. Would like a vest I could stuff into a backpack as most of these ponds are remote and I'm hiking in. I'd like low profile pockets/pouches. Any suggestions?

Mostly dry flies & maybe a small box of wet flies for sub surface and the other stuff usually needed for any outing. For ponds - I usually bring in two rod/reel setups. One for dry flies and another is a fast sink tip with 25' head to get down if the fish aren't looking up.

I had one like this for years b4 I started rolling with the hip packs and can attest that it’s simple well made and compressible (minus your fly boxes lol)

    Thanks!

I can attest to the quality of Filson - I've had my current upland strap vest for 17 years and it's showing no signs of wear (other than being dirty). It's been hunted very hard.

I did look at that Patagonia vest as well - but I want something with a little less pocket protrusion.

I snagged this from cabelas bargain return room. Part vest, part backpack, and it's got great features inside and out

Not sure if this will satisfy your needs, but I got the daypack deluxe from Vedavoo for my hike-in fishing. There's an attachable pouch for active fishing stuff that you can pull off and sling over your shoulder when you're done your hike. I've been really happy with it. It's on the pricey side (and wow... I think he raised the price since I bought mine), but it's a small American business that handmakes each product, and I like supporting them when I can. The owner makes the flyfishing show circuit, so you can maybe check them out if that works.

I'm not really sure it's the solution to a hike in to jump in a canoe though... but I don't do that type of fishing so I don't really know. I love this guy's products (I have their sling as my non-hike in usual fishing crap carrier too), and they are designed for the needs of us flyfishers.

Sometimes I think I need an intervention.

110 miles of miserable roads to chase steelies.

10° and snowing so hard I can't see the other side of the river.

Guides are freezing up, ice floes are battering my drift and I've got the wind blowing up my back.

Is it wrong that I loved it, but could only tough it out for 90 minutes? IMG_20171230_090854.jpg IMG_20171230_103621.jpg

The same shit everyone else has.
    Props for getting out.

Everything id normally fish here is basically frozen over or frozen solid. I planned on taking advantage of this 3 day weekend and starting the year off by fishing hard but it doesnt look like it now

    :(

I havent been by our lake, but the last couple days have been lots of rain so even if I did Ice fish it would be a death trap now. I dont ice fish so not that big a deal, I can wait till spring.
