Market research time - Is there any interest in having a option to have a white acrylic backplate that lights up with an LED light when you headlights are on? If so, what would you pay for that specific feature?

 

Depending on the upcharge for the light up version and the color of light. A definate maybe.

 

i'm thinking just white. i think all other colors are illegal to have on when driving on public roads. i have to look into it more, but i definitely want to light mine up.

how much? that's what I'm struggling with. gotta find someone who can get me the acrylic plates and then the right led light bar to put behind it. if the total is more than what people are willing to pay, then we're SOL

 

Well Greg, I’d say given your start and suggested intent to this awesomeness you’ve created here, as inexpensive as possible would be the best. With that in mind, would $50 - $100 be realistic? If not, i’d say following your original idea of making something FAR less than the competition with the same or higher quality, as long as you cover your costs and don’t do it ONLY for making Tacos pretty, you’re in the right ballpark to earn all kinds of karma on the +++

 

@greg8765 Another thought, which my change the cost equation.. hopefully downward, instead of changing material add some....

This would likely involve a little testing to get things perfect, but the Acrylic would as well. This method removes the easily scratched and possibly UV damage vulnerabilities of most acrylic.

What I am thinking is a "u" or simular channel/bracket, as it likely does not need fill coverage, setting the insert back maybe a 1/4 - 1/2 inch. Put a LED bar across the top shining down, maybe another on the bottom facing up is needed for light output, that lights with the headlights/not daytime runners. Would maybe cost you the cost of the U, which if 1 LED strip works may only be needed on top, modified/changed mounting hardware, and the LED strip. You could prolly source the LED strips cheap. I am thinking around $5ish. Another possibility if put smaller LED strips on each side shinning toward the middle.

So if 1 strip does the job the insert would sit like |/ with the light shining down, if 2 are needed more like | | with the lights going up and down or to the center from the sides.

I bet @mesojdm or @mattgecko could help you find or source LED strips/modules.
