Woke up and my auto start did not work, jumped in and the truck would not start, just made a clicking sound.

2017 TRD Off Road with 5k miles.

Having it towed in on Tuesday as they are closed till then due to the holiday.

Also getting the heater fan rattle looked at and the freezing E brake.

It has been below 0 in Minnesota and the truck sits out.

Sounds like a starter solenoid. At least that is what it sounds like in older cars that I've had over the years.

    Should be a simple fix.

Try charging the battery. My truck handles the cold just fine, but we don’t drive much and the battery doesn’t get charged enough. You should also be using a block heater if it’s that cold.

Definitely this. The super cold kills batteries.

I will repeat the same info as above, try giving it a jump, its not unheard of for new or fairly new batteries having issues. I have had cars power up everything normal when the key is flipped ie all light work normally, radio is on etc, but just click when the ignition is attempted.

Earlier this week it was -8 one morning, then -12 the next and my truck fired up slower than normal, but there was only about 12 hours between the time I parked it so it had a recent charge.

    Try negative -50 degrees .
Block heaters , battery warmers , trickle chargers , booster packs ,synthetic engine oil , synthetic trans fluid , synthetic diff and transfer case oil
My truck still has a hard time starting .
I keep a huge battery charger with boost in the back seat .
I keep a pancake air compressor in the box . Those alluminum rims dont like holding air at these temps . Mechanical shit breaks very very easy at these temps

A prolonged period of very cold wind chills continues.

A cold Arctic air mass continues to keep a strong frigid grip over Northern Ontario.

Nighttime wind chill values near minus 40 or below are expected in most areas until Monday.

Wind chills will moderate providing some temporary relief from the extreme cold during the daytime.

Cheap and easy using left over insulation from Lowes or Home Depot.

I am trying to avoid Toyota service from using thier favorite line, can't duplicate the issue so I don't want to jump it.

I put my battery tester on and it was showing under 10 amps.

If Toyota does not replace the battery free I will upgrade to an Optima.

Take the battery to your favorite auto parts store. They will be able to analyze the battery for you and tell you if there’s something wrong with it or it just needs to be charged. From there you can determine if you need a replacement or not. If you need to replace it, keep the receipt along with the old battery and whatever other documentation you can get from the parts store and Toyota will reimburse you.

When this happened to me last month the battery was fine, so all I needed to do was charge it. Chances are that’s what’s going on with you, too.

    Damn.

    Damn.

    Just Damn.

I don't know how my truck would do.....but, I'd not last a damn week in a place that has temps like that. FTS !!!

Much respect to the OP and everyone else who can handle that type of living. Damn.

I'd have to rest my nut sack on my hot grills when cooking if I was hoping to serve up the Yule log for dessert.

I'm in the Northeast, pretty Damn cold here too, my 2017 fires right up. We drive mass produced vehicles and nothing is perfect, bet you battery is defective. Dealer should warranty it no issue.

Its been below 0 here for like 5 consecutive days. Truck haven't moved for 7 days now since I am on holidays. Tomorrow I'll plug the block heater and also put the charger on the battery, just to put all the luck on my side.

Hey Gearcruncher, are you in Redlake? I'm in Kenora but as of now in Florida enjoying 25c temps. I saw -33c for this morning. Unfortunately I'm back on the 7th but it looks like it' warming up to -15c.

My coordinates 49.840115,-94.445059 Black Sturgeon Lake

No wonder you are a 'gearcruncher'.

At those temps its a wonder the internet isn't frozen.

So you live there on purpose, right? No one is holding you prisoner or anything? o_O

    Wow!

    Minus degrees??

I thought it was cold this morning because it read 54 on the ambient temp sensor in my truck...

I don't blame your truck for not wanting to do nothing
