https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1j_Vzyohzg im thinking of trying this video and just use 1 door piston. I have been drinking whiskey mixers all day today cause im so pissed someone didn't fully close the door till it locked , this is the 2nd time this has happened the other time it was the mailman trying to put a package in the doors and the wind got it flung open the damage to the jam wasn't as bad as this time, but replaced both pistons/absorbers and it worked. now I have cracked splintered wood where the upper bracket screws to the jam, just coming home from a xmas party I noticed the bottom piston is also bent and no good, im so pissed off ive been drinking all day whiskeys to try to calm down, some moron decided not to fully close the door in haste now my door jam is totally fucked. thanx for the help tho appreciated.

I'd hate to see how grumpy you'd be if something important went south. Lifes too short for me to sweat something like that.

This Old House hasnt failed me yet. Think about adding a wind chain. Theyre cheap insurance. I put one on my basment door after the wind ripped it open a few times

great idea wind chain good insurance, I removed the lower piston this morning both are bent and so is the hardware, going to Homedepot to get a new one, some stripping came off the inside window pane I think I can reattach it with some 3m double sided tape cause it wont clip back on. im still trying to figure out if I can cutout or remove the splintered area and replace with new wood if its not part of the door jam maybe that piece can be replaced with new wood.

    What would you do??

We haven’t bought this home yet, still in negotiations. It’s new construction.

Our first thought was to build a rough sawn wood ‘box’ to resemble one large timber piece mantle.

How would you finish the remaining vertical wall. And hearth that projects out? It’s a gas fireplace, black frame.

prob depends on your other decor but this is a cool look, it basically framed box using barnwood to look like beams. You could also run faux riverstone all the way up to the ceiling, I know they make it in panel form.

Thanks. Doors off, frames and doors sanded to 120 grit, deglossed, primed with SW extreme bond primer, then Emerald urethane trim. Installed hidden soft close hinges and drawer slides and new hardware to keep hands off the paint. Paint is very expensive but well worth it. It's a lot of tedious work but cabinets were in like new shape and couldn't justify replacing.

They were roller/brushed also with high quality brushes/rollers. One coat of primer, 4 coats of paint. The primer and paint both dry quick and level out nicely. Also hardens within hours as opposed to Behr or valspar which stays soft for weeks. Light sanding in between coats and thorough air hosing to remove any dust. The paint is really top notch. If you're considering it wait until SW has a 40% off sale because otherwise primer is like $65 and paint is like $95 per gallon.

Got a new fan in the bedroom with actual light. Also installed a remote system for it to control the light/fan speeds since it wasn't built into the fan.

Anyone in here rocking a Makita track saw? Thoughts?

Got a project coming up that will require doing accurate rips of plywood. I'm tired of rigging up makeshift cutting guides.
