Just my opinion but I bought the Hankook MT's and they're great, (20,000 miles on them now), Discount Tire didn't have a problem balancing them either, they were great in the sand on South Padre and we were pulling a trailer. I would check out the Hankook AT's if the MT's are a bit to aggressive for you, and they're cheaper than Falken Wildpeaks if I remember right . I was going to buy the Falken's but the price was a bit a bit steep. I'm on my second set of Hankooks on the Shelby and Ive been really impressed with them even on the road course in San Marcos (Harris Hill). Also I bought an E rated tire because we pull different types of trailers on occasion and the E-rated tire gives you a better sidewall which helps you when airing down on the trail. But that's just my opinion.

IMO tires are overrated. My stuck tires have taken me all over Hidden Falls, Barnwell, Big Bend, and a little of New Mexico. Lift and tires look sexy though and they'll definitely increase your capability.

My first time out my truck was stock. Still had temporary tags on even. I was nervous and timid. But every time I go with a good leader I'm amazed at how capable a stock taco is. Run what you brung and make changes as you gain experience and learn what would be beneficial. My first serious upgrades were skid plates then sliders. Even with additional clearance, accidents happen and skids and sliders are a nice insurance policy. And if you do plan on going off-road, be prepared mentally for the inevitable fact that your truck will get scratched. We all want to get home in one piece but trails here are often narrow... Trees and clear coat don't get along too well

Pixel is making a good point to some extent and here's why I say that. I bought my Tacoma used with 14,000 miles, and the dealer, I think, swapped out the AT's for Dunlop street tires which where terrible. If you live in Texas you're going to take your truck to the coast/beach. DON'T take it with street tires even with 4-wheel drive, at least not down to South Padre. So the question is .......does it have AT's on it already?

I ran duratracs for couple years.
Only complaint was they were loud.

Got wildleak mt now...or for the past month that is. Am pleased so far.

There is a guy here in SA selling a set of used ATPs for cheap cheap.

Have you joined San Antonio Tacomas on facebook?

I am a bit biased when I say the weak point is the tires.

Being from Louisiana, where everything off-pavement is almost garunteed to be wet, stock tires dont cut it.

    No tread, no travel.

Texas is more rock than Louisiana though.

I couldn’t back up to deer feeder on stock tires on a foggy morning with dew on ground. I had to improvise. I still get grief having to replace tires due to dry rot. Had 65998 driving today. I didn’t want to see the jinxed mileage at all.

Alright you guys. Make sure you let faucets have a small stream from them during this freeze. Don’t need y’all calling me in the middle of night with busted pipes

Mark, you’re on a well and would help to do the same. Wells freeze at the small 3/8” nipple where pressure switch is in pipe.

Not any here yet! Kind of surprised to be honest. It seems like it would be the right conditions for it..
