So in the name of religion it's ok to kill one another and molest children? I think I'll believe what I want and live my life without being brain washed by a bunch of fanatics.

 

I don't consider myself a fanatic or brainwashed, nor do I think it's ok to kill someone or molest a child. Stereotyping this way is the same as saying all black people steal, all asians can't drive, all mexicans cut my grass...etc etc.

Sorry, I know that's not the case with everyone. Alot people go by that line of thought though...history is full of examples of this. It just seems like some people look at religion as an excuse to justify what they are doing weather it be right or wrong.

 

No problem, I didn't take offense or anything. Just simply saying that there are some "good" Christians as well as "bad" ones. I've met many people that are just like you've explained and they use religion and God as an excuse to act like a fool or whatever. I call them fanatics just as much as you do...but there are some good eggs out there.

Religion causes man to focus on black an white, absolutes... Legalism. They loose focus on the origin of their religion, Jesus Christ. Ditch the religion and look to a relationship! It's more than an insurance policy, eternity starts now.

Nothing, but as with everything in the world, it can be misused. I can bash a guy in the head with a rock, doesn't mean Jesus has anything against rocks

I would have thought he would have mentioned something about how evil marijuana is in the bible then, since he did bring up those other points.

 

i don't think they had marijuana plants in isreal back in the day...lol...alot of things we deal with today weren't around back when the bible was written...you didn't go to an alley and buy crack from some gang member....lol....they did have wine but it's nothing like the alcohol we have today...it was more watered down...people didn't walk around half naked either...lol...alot has changed

 

they had wine in the bible too, but the bob jones freaks i live near will tell you alcohol in all its forms is a sin, even a single sip. the bible never said wine was bad, but overindulgence to the point where you made a fool out of yourself or hurt your own gospel, that was the issue.

Pot has been growing naturally on 6 out of the 7 continents for thousands of years. there was definitely pot in the middle east in Jesus times. opiates have been used all over the world for thousands of years. you're right, the wine the peasants drank was weak and watered down but anyone with money had good wine that i promise you is as strong as what we drink today if not stronger. most of hte same temptations we deal with today were around back then. but unlike today, there was no welfare system back then. you could choose to contribute to society, or you could die. but no governement was gonna send you a welfare check if you decided finding a job was too hard or you'd rather sit around drinking or smoking pot all day. back then you had to live (or die) by your decisions.

 

God didnt make crack heads...crack heads made crack heads. Its a choice just like everything else. It is all temptation, temptation is wrong, its giving in that is wrong.
God didnt make anybody sin, we are all born pure, but with evil hearts and desires that want to do some pretty messed up strange things. But all people have to say is no. Its a struggle but hey its better than the consequences.
