Finally found something that irritates me about my '17 Limited. I get a high pitched "whistle" that comes from the area between the "A" pillar and the driver's side side view mirror at speeds from ~30MPH +. Put my hand there and it goes away. Any constructive thoughts would be appreciated while smart-ass remarks will be ridiculed and their writers will be embarrassed.

Might be the control arms too. Mine did that until I got the TSB done. Worth a shot

You'll need to properly define both smart-ass and embarrassed.

Otherwise many of us won't know when we've been out of line or chastised.

There are threads around here where door seals have been replaced and LCA holes plugged up to stop some of those noises.

Both my work truck (F-450) and my Taco make a Kazoo-like sound from the same area. I placed a strip of tape on the weatherstrip inside the front door jamb on my work truck and the noise went away. I have not pursued the noise on the Taco. It is very evident on both rigs in a cross-wind.

Smart ass means the noise that the Taco owners, usually Gen 1 & 2 rag on anything not lifted, modified, customized,or Gen3.

Wish it was coming from that area then I would understand it. My noise is between the "A" pillar and the driver's side side mirror. Goes away if I put my hand there. That's kinda' tough to do when it's 26 degrees out.

    Maybe your mirro
Maybe your mirror "vortex generators" are not working as they are supposed to do..!

I think a trip to the dealer is in order..... ask them to check your Vortex Generators to see if'n they are functioning as designed..!!

Try folding the mirror inward ... does that stop the noise..?? If so, you need NEW vortex generators, I think. (the ones with more "curl" to them, to create tighter vortexes....OR try waxing them to see if that helps..!!

Could still be the seal, but your hand disrupts the airflow that causes the seal to leak.

W/o a wind tunnel and smoke, kinda hard to tell.

Bet if you take it in, complain, replicate the noise, you'll get a new seal. Can't hurt to see if that's the issue, on Toyota's dime.

I have the same issue with my '17 SR5 especially at speeds over 50 mph. Brought it in for my 5k mile MPI and mentioned it to the dealership. They claim they checked it with a infra red gun and the seal appears to be sealing properly. I also mentioned this in my new vehicle survey. Not sure what the issue is but it is annoying.

Interesting method. While that might reveal a temp delta if there is a full on leak, I don't know how it would reveal a kazoo type noise in the area, that does not literally leak into the cab. Seems a full on 'leak' would leak water too.

Does the vehicle odo in and out support that they did a road test at the speeds you have the noise at?

I noticed when I installed those in channel rain/sun deflectors on my 2016 and that seemed to help alot. Now I only hear it on real windy days when driving highway speeds at above 70 mph. On non windy days I can go 80 or above and not hear any. Call me crazy but that's my experience, I wasn't even looking for those deflectors to do that job, I only wanted them to crack my windows on hot Texas summer days, so when I noticed the wind noise cut down I was extra glad I got em.

I believe the vehicle was not taken out for a test drive. I also found this to be an interesting method to check the door seal. Up to this point, I have not experienced any water leaks.

MAN i need to go to your dealer. In hawaii, everything unless there is a TSB or Recall is "normal operation" and "cannot duplicate complaint"

Vehicles are supposed to maintain a slightly positive cabin pressure so a an air leak and noise might not correlate to a water leak.

Since Asheville is considered by some as a "Vortex Hub", you just might be on to something. Us 'ol guys need to stick together.

The metal seems pretty thin on these trucks. They emboss ribs into the roof to stiffen it but it's still just thin tin with no sound proofing. Adhesive sheets or spray on rubberized bedliner should dampen noise considerably. I hear noise from all around the sides and back as well. Face it, these aren't luxury vehicles with touted quiet cabins.

I cannot believe that these newer trucks still leak around the door seals. I have a 2015 SR5 4x4 doublecab with the "Kazoo" option. I just crack up every time that I hear it. I get some serious winds blowing off of Lake Erie and it makes for some pretty killer riffs! For the price that you have to pay for these trucks, you would think that they could remedy this problem.
