Used a spacer in between the fist grip and rail for the shovel

And made a little steel plate to support the fist grip from twisting with ax mounted

Went out testing my snow chains this morns. What do you do when you don’t have enough snow.. climb some sand dunes. Sand makes a great substitute for snow.

Huge success in the test. I sat at the bottom of the dune and with no momentum went for a slow crawl up (4Lo rear locked).

I remember it coming up earlier on this thread, but what kinda snow chains did you get? Considering them even with how well the Coopers dug in the snow today.

I have these ones and they are amazing. I believe he has the same ones just without the v bars. Just scroll down the page a bit and make sure your tire size is listed

    Another Trip North
Took another trip up north with @Subway4X4 @HolyHandGrenade @JCjeeper and OCK (don't know her handle if she's on here)
Originally I wasn't planning on writing a report on this one since I wasn't expecting to do anything new or difficult, but we ended up doing a lot. Surprisingly (considering we were in the snow) we ran into very few issues so everyone was going through trails at a pretty good pace which meant we had ample time to explore some new stuff.
We met up at the usual spot at about 8:30... well maybe 8:45, since I was running late, as usual.

First trail was one we've run many times before and both lloyd and I know like the back of our hands at this point, we decided to try the rocky bypass in the snow this time since everyone was prepared for it, I believe this was one of the first times Jeremy was the least prepared of the group considering he was running open/open, but still capable enough to do 90% of what we did today.
We managed to get 3/4 trucks up the bypass, Jeremy was slipping a lot but finally hooked a ledge and crawled up. OCK was also slipping and had to pick a couple different lines I believe but made it up with no issue. Tim high centered a bit but had no issue, on his way out he also got hung up on his diff and passenger side slider. Lloyd had some issues getting up, wasn't getting enough traction even double locked, so he decided to go around.

    DSC08152.jpg
    DSC08155.jpg
Lloyd going around the rock face:
    DSC08159.jpg

The rest of this trail was easy, we came out to some wider trails and I decided we had plenty of time left to explore some new stuff. These weren't difficult trails but had some decent scenery.
    DSC08163.jpg

I was trying to follow some trails I mapped out but when I map them its pretty difficult to see every intersection so it was inevitable that wed make a couple wrong turns, we had to turn around after I realized we were going too far down the wrong trail.
    DSC08165.jpg

After continuing down the right trail this time we decided to stop for lunch up on a hilltop, nice views of snow covered hills and all. Lunch was quick, lloyd had some soup and Tim and OCK offered subs and chips.
We continued on through some new stuff to some nice trails I knew were nearby, nothing difficult through here. A good chunk of this trail was ice. As lloyd pointed out, luckily, if you can call it luck, we've had sub freezing temps lately which probably froze the water all the way through.
    DSC08173.jpg
    DSC08178.jpg

We came out to nice open trails that got a little more technical, first part was an off camber section with a few decent sized rocks, not much issue getting through the off camber part but OCK was getting hung up on her shock mounts and had to adjust her line a few times. Jeremy was the only one who did the second off camber section that you can see to the right of tim in the last picture.
    DSC08182.jpg
    DSC08184.jpg
    DSC08189.jpg
    DSC08191.jpg

Next spot was a solid rock face, everyone tried the same line at first, straight up the wall, it doesnt look challenging but the snow was causing some issues, Jeremy and lloyd went to the right, OCK went far left, and tim tried to stay to the left side of the rock face as well.
    DSC08196.jpg
    DSC08203.jpg
    DSC08204.jpg
    DSC08207.jpg

The rest of this trail was pretty easy, we went back towards the main trail and by the time we came out we still had plenty of time to kill so I suggested we try another hill that I assumed wouldn't take long.
    DSC08208.jpg

    Jeremy chose some interesting lines
    DSC08209.jpg
    DSC08211.jpg
    DSC08213.jpg

This hill was giving everyone trouble, just steep and icy, but we were determined to get to the top. Jeremy got about 3/4 of the way up but there was no way he was getting past a rocky part in the snow on an incline with open diffs. We sat back and watched lloyd get up it, he was slipping a lot and got hung up on a stump next to a rut near the top, after trying 10 different ways to get around it lloyd finally broke out the chainsaw and made it up. Jeremy took an easier line and came up next. OCK had to take a few different lines but wasn't having too much trouble. Tim was really giving it the sauce coming up last, combination of slippery slope and some big rocks kept him back. Lloyd directed him up a new line and he made it with the help of a little more juice.
    DSC08214.jpg
    DSC08216.jpg

Once we were at the top the views were awesome. Next time we're up there Ill have to plant a new flag.

Had a great time, was nice meeting you @HolyHandGrenade and OCK, hopefully we can get out there again soon.
