I was just wondering what others did.... I see neighbors do nothing and wondering if I really need to do what I do. The pipe always has water in it. I have always covered it, when the temps get into the higher 20's on down.

 get in the ground 12"?? Doesn't freeze that much here.

Could just be my landlord being paranoid. :notsure: Anytime it gets down in the twenties or lower he calls and reminds us to make sure the pipes are well covered.

He was talking about pouring gravel and sand in the hole around the pipes to make sure standing water doesn't freeze. Probably 12" to make sure it gets below the freeze line.

I have no standing water. There's never any water there, unless I have the spigot on. Is there a freeze line here in SC?

Doing half a 20 pounder in the oven tonight... :pout: But at least we'll have meat!

I'll do the other half when it warms up again after this cold snap.

Well, we live right on the lake on a flat lot, and if it rains more than a drizzle we definitely get standing water. Our circumstances are probably just that much different.

Is this your house water? Or just irrigation? Can you put a tarp over it all and run an extension cord with a drop light under it?

@ImpulseRed008 from what I read, the only time you need to worry about ground freeze in South Carolina is when you're up in the foothills or mountains.

Just irrigation. I've got a foam pipe cover, bubble wrap insulation, and a sweat shirt wrapped around it, and covered with a trash bag. not comfortable leaving a light out over night :anonymous:

I’m trying to catch up on this.
We get hard freezes here every so often. If there is a faucet on that loop I’d open it for water flow. I don’t know how cold it’ll get y’alls way and for how long but if there’s flow it has a harder time to freeze.

Doesn't seem like that long ago I was gonna get an electric smoker and you and @Sandman614 told me my meat would have no soul cause I wasn't giving it any love. Now I'm complaining cause I have to cook meat in the oven. Will be nice to get some extra heat moving through the house, though.

If that’s what you’ve done in past and it’s worked. Depends how long it’ll stay below freezing. We’re at freezing now and may not get back above until Wednesday.

Other times I've put a rubber maid container over it, along with the sweat shirt and a towel.... Hmmmm might put a towel over it, too. Thanks kevin
