First off, I know this issue has already been discussed in other threads and forums (thats how I came about knowing about it, lol)...that being said I have come to learn that navigating the vast depths of Tacoma World can be disorientating...with that disclaimer upfront I wanted to share what I did to my 3rd gen today and hope to help another fellow Taco owner who may've missed this Toyota Service Bulletin as I did for over a year. TSB-0077-16 is a warranty covered computer program modification to your transmission shift points. Today I had the dealer check my transmission fluid levels (as some trucks out of the San Antonio plant were coming from the factory with low transmission fluid levels) as well as reprogram my "transmission computer"...the fluid levels checked out normal and TSB 0077 was performed. All I can say is the transmission which I hated since day one and made me wish I had gotten the manual was vastly improved with the "reprograming". If you don't like the way the transmission seems to be constantly searching for the right gear to be in... then go to the dealership and have them perform this TSB...its covered under warranty and costs nothing. The transmission I hated is no longer hated...

Just did 5000 miles of towing after TSB and it really helped with hunting gears.

I asked my Dealer about the transmission TSB during my first service and was told that It did not need it....

I picked up a '17 AT back in March. Easily the worst automatic transmission I have ever driven IMO.

But a buddy of mine mentioned his '17 wasn't great either, but not seemingly as bad as I was experiencing. It may be possible that the truck was never updated with TSB-0077-16, but I'll never know for sure cause I went 6MT

Give it about 5k miles and it will revert back to its old way. The only reason its running better is because the transmission "learning" has been cleared during the reflash. The only thing that makes my truck drive better is when the learning gets cleared, and it only lasts about 5k miles

I had it done last year and it only lasted about 5k miles for me as well. Wish there was a way I could do it myself every 5k miles because it does make a world of difference. Just starts to suck again as it "learns"

Yeah, I need to go get Rev 1 done; I have the original TSB.
Since the cold got here, I'm getting the one time 3-4 flare again after a cold soak.

Do a search on "Techstream" in this forum. Software and adapters are available online. Whether or not you can access the appropriate menus , I have no idea.

Disconnect negative battery terminal for 10-15 mins. You won't lose your settings/presets but it does clear the short-term memory and you'll notice the transmission learning resetting itself. Generally I see about 1500 solid miles before transmission learning goes to crap on stock ECU tune (Rev 1). And as split mentioned, you can actually use/subscribe to TIS Techstream (same software the dealerships use) which does have an option to clear learning as well.

Has anyone used the ShiftSense™ Pro V2 or have any thoughts on it?

After installing the ShiftSense Pro, transmission shifting is no longer what I think about while driving my Taco. It works as advertised and I highly recommend it. I've had it installed for 7 months now and upgraded to the V2 when it was made available.

My '16 OR drives marginally better after the TSB's, however, our shop truck is a '16 Sport AC and it drives like a completely different truck than mine. Super smoothe.

    I do.
    Lot more enjoyable than stock.

Still doesn't prevent the 3-4 flare I mentioned.

When it wasn't quite as cold, I used to be able to manipulate the gas to make it not happen. I'd either hold 3rd longer or step into the 3-4 shift. Too cold now to make it happen.

TSB 0077-16 Rev 1 is supposed to address that. Hopefully it works out for me

OP....did the dealer actually perform a physical check of tranny fluid level?????? If not.......get it done..!!

    My 5 cents (CDN)..!
