How long is everyone's TPMS batteries lasting and what are you going to do when they die?

I think the seatbelt light is #1, as the most useless dummy light.

 

Friggen garbage, it looks like a great way to come out and find your tire flat while the OEM dash light it still blinking away

 

I know you must have but can't help asking, Have you checked your spare tires air pressure since you owned it?

 

Mine died at about 7 years old. Haven't bothered with replacement and am too lazy to try the electrical tape fix. Got along without TPMS for many years. Routine checking of the tires works for me.

 

You can program sensors yourself with $35 techstream.

 

I took mine out when I put my new tires and wheels on last year. They are sitting in a box in my garage. Fuck TPMS

 

huh?.... i have aftermarket wheels/tires and drive in the snow and mud with chains constantly.they never freak out my TPMS.... the VSC does though.

 

I don’t have a sensor in the spare. Also my spare is on a swing out on the rear bumper, not under the truck.

 

Manufacturers are rule of thumbing it at around 10 years for TPMS sensor battery life. With a proper scan tool you can view the sensors reported remaining battery life - usually in months (new sensors typically report 120 month remaining).

Actual battery life varies in real world conditions.

 

I didn't know a scan tool could monitor TPMS battery life. I still haven't decided if the money spent on a scan tool would be worth it, Harbor freight sells inexpensive ones.

 

Why would you need a sensor dummy light when you check your air pressure weekly... right. Find a decent place where it's FREE and support the business.

To respond to a fast leak before it becomes a flat.

 

This. TPMS saved my butt when I had a sidewall go south from a slash on a rock. I had about 5 seconds of the tpms light on that I saw and was able to slow from 75 down to 35 before the tire blew out.

I have the techstream cable and software and could easily program new sensors. Also cool to be able to see psi in each tire down to like a tenth of a psi.

 

Can you turn off the tpms dash light with techstream? What about the seat belt sound.

 

TPMS im not sure. You might be able to unregister all of the sensors and the ecu might go well, no sensors no light?

Seatbelt sound yes, there is a "user changeable option" to enable or disable the seatbelt sound, but not eh seatbelt light.

 

I saw the ability to enter or alter each tpms code so I agree there may me a possibility. Just wondering if there would still be a flashing light if you did that by deleting the codes to zero. Maybe somebody else will chime in shortly. Thanks!

 

Id try it but im not about to fix what aint broken haha. knowing my luck id fuck something up and tpms would be constantly flashing haha.

I don’t blame you! I wouldn’t do it either. I think you are smarter than the average bear for that! Thank you for your input on the techstream, I just started looking at it and what it can do with it. I’m kicking myself now for throwing out an old lap top with xp.
