I usually just go tight and then a quarter turn if I can't find torque specs. Little loc-tite never hurt anyone as well;)

I always just choke up on my wrench and go as tight as I can from there...

Is the hole where the drain bolt goes supposed to be flush with the oil pan? There's a raised lip around the hole that looks like a gasket but I can't tell if it's a gasket or part of the oil pan

    Pics?

Edit: I reread it cause I'm an idiot. I'd assume it's a gasket unless it's metal.

I figured it out... it was a REALLY old gasket. Whoever changed the oil before I got this truck never changed it. It was seized to the oil pan I had to pry it out.

Last oil change I just assumed it was part of the oil pan because of how stuck it was.

I am 5'9" so I doubt I would hit my head on it.
Most likely I will be wearing an airbag instead. Just tired of the visor hanging down blocking my view.

Jesus lol. I would guess that you'd be able to poke at it and see if it was rubber but if it was stuck on like that it probably felt like metal haha

@BartMaster1234 Yeah I've pulled a few gaskets off like that. Do you have a new crush washer for your drain bolt?

So Toyota quotes two different oil capacity specs for 2WD and 4WD. I'm going to presume the 2WD spec is for 5 lugs and I should be following the 4WD specs since I'm a PreRunner.

Now I'm kind of curious since I'm converting my truck to 4WD from PreRunner do I follow the 2WD capacity spec or 4WD?

    It's 5.8 Quarts vs. 5.7 Quarts so I don't know if the 0.1 Quart makes a difference.

Thanks @cruiserkev! Looking forward to a lot of good times with this truck. Finally got her home since we've been housesitting all weekend. Purple truck. Purple house. Not really sure how this all happened.

So I'm trying to put on the crown nut for the upper ball joint tightening it to the upper control arm, but there's one problem. When I turn the crown nut it turns the whole ball joint... how exactly do I tighten it? Lol

Put a c-clamp on the control arm and spindle to put a little pressure on them.

see if you can give the UCA a nice little whack with a hammer so that the taper on the ball joint engages the UCA better. That way the UCA will help hold the ball joint while you turn the nut.

Edit: ^^^ that seem like a better idea. haha

Okay.. I go to jack up the control arm to do my knuckles and I see a huge puddle of oil after I did an oil change. It's not coming from the oil pan. Wtf is this? It looks like it's coming from one of the accessories on the engine.

Did you spill any oil while filling it?
