only thing ford id consider from new line up is not something for the value but rather the car itself.

    1) 5.0 gt - great motor, chassis is great with a little tweaking and weight reduction.
    2) focus RS finally awd turbo that Europe had. id say the st fiesta but its just too small but good little track fun car.

trucks? do you want to loose 10k on trade in in 2 years? or you want to keep value in your truck and drive it 300k like most tacos do? its your call. I work on my stuff so to me id prefer value.

I went from a 98 f150 to a 1996 Tacoma, and at the same time my dad swapped his 2014 f150 for a 2016 Tacoma. The f150 has better power and a larger size, but the Tacoma has better value and a better (almost jeep like ;)) community. Also I believe the customization options are much more cool/different.

The RS will end up having drivetrain issues at anything over stock power.

I hear this argument alot on TW but stuggle to understand the logic. After 12 years of owning my 04 I sold it for 75% of what I paid. Why would that not matter?

I've never lost money on any of my trucks, even the 91 with a blown headgasket and slipping clutch sold for $2800 after 12 years and 180k miles on it.

F_c_ing keyboard warriors here in this website. Enjoy your trucks whatever they may be and shut the hell up.

i work with people who own all makes and models and frankly the only ones who have problems with any of them are the one who modify them and or wheel them... The others just drive them and use them to tow or haul a little something.

    Close this thread please...

I said after 10+years it shouldn't matter because "The average life expectancy of a car was 8 years or 150,000 miles up till few years back. Now due to improved design and technology, life expectancy of a car is considered at 200,000 miles done or 10 years."

    https://www.cardealpage.com/column14.html

In other words, don't expect anything after ten years.
But if you do get something, maybe a lot more, be thankful Toyota makes trucks that last 15-20+ years with very few of any issues. Most all my fords can last 10 yrs, but some of the electric windows won't go up & down, the paint job is shot, the headliner is falling off, the P/S pump squeals after 5 yrs, the engine and transmission seals leak, rack & pinion leaks, shocks are gone after 5yrs and I could go on and on, but...

    I hope that helps!
    Cheers!

A Tundra maybe. I owned F150s for 30+years. I spent close to $4k on my 2001 before it hit 95k on ODO. Plus it was a tire and brake eater. Paint peeled on roof at about 38k due to a well known design flaw and they tried to tell something scraped it off. Done with F150s.

Every damn Explorer I see has that crack center panel right below the rear window. A well-known design flaw. Reminds me of the great quality product and what they do to correct it. Zero. Great advertising for them.

Sounds like my 2006 Tundra. Every service performed by the dealer and never had any problems. At 118,000 miles I headed to work one morning and it wouldn't come out of first gear unless I ran it up to about 4000 rpm's and then let off of the gas, then it would shift really hard. At first it only happened on takeoff but pretty quickly started doing it every time I slowed down enough for it to go into first gear. I ended up trading it on the Tacoma.

Funny you mention that, I actually look for Explorers without that cracked panel. Haven't found one in the wild yet.

Checking out my buddy's new F150 the other day, I'm more content with my Taco. The details in build and quality of materials on the ford is lacking, reminded me why the Toyotas hold their value and look good while the Fords start looking tired after 5-10 years.

    2017 Ram 1500
Not sure if I have the right thread here but recently I set out to buy a 2017 Tacoma to add to the two toyotas already in my driveway - but ended up with a Ram 1500 instead.

First drove a 2017 TRD off-road double cab. Nice soft ride on rough broken pavement but too jiggly on smooth roads.
Then drove a 2017 TRD Sport and found it a little too firm. The SR5 may have been just right ride wise but they are impossible to find for a test drive in Canada.

Neither Tacoma could do better that 16l/100km on a highway test drive, the seat height was fixed at 4" too low, the back seat had no leg room for my sons, and the fuel tank was too small for long trips in regions where gas stations are scarce.

Next drove a 2017 Chev Colorado and found the seating position and rear leg room better than the Tacoma, but could not bring myself to get a GM product as the ones I drove post 1993 required extensive/expensive repairs as soon as they were out of warranty. The GM products I drove in the 1970s and 1980s were great but have since declined.....and I am not sure that they have fixed their quality problems.

A comparably equipped new 2017 Ram 1500 crew cab was advertised for $8000 less than the best price on a Tacoma SR5 so I took a test drive.
The Ram provided a smoother ride, had a smaller turning circle, 98L gas tank, obtained 10.2l/100 km over the same test route as the Tacoma, had a perfect seating position, and more leg room in the back seat. Although its 4" longer than the Tacoma it still fits in the garage. I cannot understand how a smaller lighter truck like the Tacoma gets fare worse fuel economy than the V6 Ram......

Neither the Tacoma or Ram 1500 rode as well on Ontario's badly broken roads as my 17 year old Dakota, but parts to maintain the Dakota were getting scarce. Although the Tacoma has better fit&finish and would be more reliable in the long term, I plan to drive the Ram for a few years until Toyota fixes the major shortcoming of the Tacoma - ride, driver seating position, tiny fuel tank, poor fuel economy, and rear set legroom.

I suggest going on the F150 forum. You think complaints on TW are bad...

I did The opposite. Traded in my F-150 Ecoboost on a 2017 Tacoma TRD OR. Best decision I’ve made in a while.

    Haha...for real.

I'll say that if I was looking at a full-size truck I'd consider the F150 for sure. But right now...the Tacoma handles everything I need it to.
