Oh I know the Chinooks well, we are in their path where I live. We haven't had one though all of December which is very odd. There's over a foot of snow on the ground south of Calgary. Supposedly it'll warm up to around freezing by the end of the week which will be nice, we've been under a cold weather warning since before Christmas.

 

@PennSilverTaco One other thing, change to using synthetic oil. It makes a huge difference starting below freezing. If you don't believe me go out and put a quart of synthetic and non synthetic oil on the porch when it's really cold, like single digits in F. Then pour them into a pan. The synthetic will empty out just like it's a normal spring day. The non synthetic will look like molasses lol.

 

Been powerful hard here too. But I did see the Oilers freeze on the ice the other night.

You're exactly the type of person I wanted to hear from! Longtime Minnesota resident who happens to have pretty much the same truck as me! The only real difference between my truck and yours is that I have a 5-lug. I'd say the in terms of the engine and electrical systems they are virtually identical!

 

Will the Toyota dealer use synthetic oil if I request it?

 

Ummm... not limited slip or locking diff... 1 wheel peel. The mechanical LSD was discontinued in '08 I believe.

 

Yes. Some will even let you bring them synthetic.

Like I said, it simulates a locking diff. I got stuck in the mud before and when I floored it, both rear wheels spun...

If I ever hit the lottery, one of the first things I'm gonna do is put a bona fide posi rear in my Tacoma! If I don't hit the lottery, I'll put one in a few years from now when I have more money!

 

I've lived in Maine for 40+ years and have also never had/used any type of engine/block heater. Never had an issue with the cold and vehicle. My truck doesn't fit in my garage. It's parked outside all winter.

 

Dont hit the lottery, this is 2018, someone will be offended.
