So, my truck still technically has an open rear?

It actually does surprisingly good in the snow...

Yeah, the auto LSD is still much better than an open diff, just works differently than a mechanical

When the driver presses the Auto LSD switch, this system achieves the LSD effect by regulating the hydraulic pressure that acts on the drive wheels and controlling the engine output in accordance with the amount of pedal effort applied on the accelerator.

I'm probably better off leaving it stock then...

    3" vertical ascension.....wheels.....tires......stuff
People tell me I'd miss the change in seasons if I moved somewhere warmer. I'd be up for at least trying to string some Christmas lights on a palm tree!

Back to the truck....I've used synthetic oil on my vehicles that could/should have it, including my taco. The manual recommends changing it every 5K and I do. I figure it's cheap insurance towards prolonging the motor.

The battery I have I got from a local dealership-I got a coupon in the mail for an 84 month Toyota battery with decent cold weather stats for $119 installed. The last one I bought and put in myself(like that's rocket surgery)cost me over $100, so I thought I'd try the Toyota battery.

True, but cold will decrease the amount of amps the battery can put through the starter. Also, batteries damaged by time and heat can freeze which is death for a battery. That's what happened to my OEM 5 years in.

Also, AGM batteries have much higher outputs in terms of amperage available to the starter when you get into the bitter cold below the cold cranking amp test temperature.

I found a JCI AGM battery for 169.99 CAD, which is only about $130 USD.

My original Toyota battery lasted from when we bought the truck in September 2009 until early 2015. My mechanic installed an Interstate Mega-Tron battery in early 2015. That's the battery I still have...

Probably, but then again... I don't agree with leaving vehicles stock. :D But yeah, you wouldn't get a huge change from just swapping in a mechanical LSD.

Don't disagree. That's why I get a new battery every 4 years. The cold will expose a weakened battery.

I meant leaving the rear diff stock. My truck is not exactly stock anymore, and I am slowly but surely building myself the ultimate daily driver 5-lug RC!

Would putting a locker in make a difference?

My bad if you thought I was arguing. I was more adding to your point and I should of worded it that way. :fistbump:

It would make a difference, but unless it was an air or electronic actuated locker, you wouldn't like driving it on the street as much. Mechanical lockers aren't super street/daily friendly.

Yeah, with regards to my current truck, I already have a reliable daily driver. It definitely has it's shortcomings when it comes to driving comfort, but it suits me just fine. At this point, I want to add functional stuff that wasn't available on RCs from the factory. Just check out my signature for what I've done to my truck so far.

If I ever get my hands on a 4x4 Tacoma, I might replace the rear diff...

My friend has a 2017 Silverado LT Z71. The G80 locker is standard by default on all Z71 trucks. Do you think his truck has the downsides associated with a locking rear diff, like the noise when you make a turn?
