2.7 fuel filter not avalible??

I went to Advanced, Vatozone, Pepboys looking for a fuel filter for my truck...No body has them. Quote "Requires disasimbily"---However you spell it.

Also where the heck is it?

 

It's in the gas tank and supposed to last the life of the truck. Doesn't make sense to me but there you have it. BTW the fuel pump is also in the gas tank and needs gas to keep it cool so it's a good idea not to let the tank run dry like some people on here do chasing miles per tank full.

 

You can get a kit from URD to mod it with a replaceable external fuel filter.

 

Yes you can. Seems like a lot of work to me, unless you are having a problem. On an 08 you should be good for a long time, I would think.

 

Agreed. Might be a good idea to change it once you get to a higher mileage.

 

They use to be on the rail, nothing to it. Now it's a project. I don't know why they make an easy jobs so difficult. The only thing I can think of is they want to tell you how little maintenance you have to do and then sell you a new truck when you have a problem. 100,000 on spark plugs seems as wrong as never needing a gas filter IMHO.

 

I, for one, like the no maintenance design of the Tacoma. My wife's Murano needs extensive service ($6-800) every 30,000 miles including plugs and filters and special additives for the CVT transmission.

On the Tacoma you change the oil, lubricate the prop shaft, change the filter for the air conditioner and drive on.

Way to go, Toyota. I won't like paying for the expensive plugs at 100,000 miles but it sure is nice until then.

 

The filter is part of the pump. There's also a "trap" below the intake so it doesn't suck up the crap on the bottom. But yeah, at 150k, think about pulling it out and cleaning.

I would have preferred an inline filter as well.

I have a 1998 Tacoma 2.7L and have replaced it. It is located below the intake manifold and is a pain to change because of its location and fittings.
