The dealer replaced the battery in my truck as part of the rear diff recall. My truck sat on the dealers lot for about 6 weeks waiting for the recall parts and by the time the parts came in the battery was dead. I had the truck for maybe 18 months when the battery was replaced.

I figured Toyota would replace with the SOS so I took matters into my own hands and bought a X2 power AGM battery as an upgrade. Warrantied for 5 years and reportedly often lasts 10 years so I'm pretty confident in this one. Why Toyota used a crappy battery to start with I couldn't tell you but I figure I'd rather have an excellent battery for when offroading rather than a brand new POS

For the record, I didn't either until my truck wouldn't start one day. Truck was 2 years and 2 months old at that point

Standard car batteries are only good for 1 to 4 years but sometimes they will last twice that long. It depends a lot on weather and how it’s used during it’s life. If you want to be bored some time read up on how lead acid batteries work and what kills them. I had to sit through a 3 hour lecture on batteries and believe me it’s a real snooze fest!

Mine failed 2 months into ownership; bad cell. I am confident it would have been replaced under warranty, however, getting it replaced under warranty would have cost me substantially more in time and money than a high end AGM replacement did - so this is the route I took.

Needless to say, I wasn't happy with the situation. Another general observation was the seemingly small size of these batteries. What happened to getting a decently sized battery with the Tow Package?

I also went with the X2 Power - great battery and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a replacement.

I bought my 2017 TRD sport back in July of 2017. The only thing I've done to it are swap the incandescent bulbs on the interior over to LEDs, and to install the 12volt solutions remote start module about a month ago. I've had flawless performance so far, but today that streak ended. I went out to start up the truck (55 deg F), and it turned over but wouldn't catch. I tried twice, then stopped and dug out the smart charger. It pretty rapidly jumped to ~75% in a few minutes.

I cranked it over, and it wasn't happy, but it caught. This seems unusual for any new truck, let alone a Tacoma. We just got off a cold snap last week, but I doubt that's enough to kill the battery like this. No visible corrosion. We'll see if it starts again this afternoon when I go home from work.

My battery was down to 9volts at start-up this weekend and while it did eventually start, it struggled to spark. Instead of replacing with another OEM that would corrode and spill like the stock one did, I did what many others have done and dropped the $ on an AGM deep cycle.

X2Power Group 24F (fyi, from my research it looks as though these are essentially Northstar batteries...). Regardless they carry a FIVE year full replacement warranty. Weighs easily 2x what the stock one did too and sits nicely at 14v at start-up with those nice copper terminals that have little chance of corrosion anytime soon!

Mine is over a year old and we have had some pretty cold days here in NH. Truck/battery has been perfect for those cold cranks and get up and go for fire/rescue calls in very negative temps. No problem here
