I'd like her to reach her full potential so what ever that may be. I'm ok with taking my time. My wife will never go for sending her off to train for months at a time.

I did some shooting while at my buddy's cabin in the mountains last weekend. I had my wife load the pup up with treats while they were waiting inside. When we took a break she seemed very curious to come check out what the guys were up too. It looks like she will react okay to gun training.

She was doing "Whoa" and forced fetch with a bumper. My wife has been throwing the ball too much so now she breaks. Back to square one.

Not much luck teaching "hold" so far. I rather use a more gentle approach with my Weim as they have a reputation of being stubborn.

My adventure buddies. Tri-colored smooth collies. They love their collie-condominium in the canopy!

They are pets, but they are not your typical couch potato pets.
We do dog sports. I've done IPO with my male, and started FR with my female, but she doesn't have the temperament for bitework sports.
They all do herding, two of them have their first herding titles, the newest one will trial in March.

We will begin scent work in the next couple weeks, once my schedule changes. I have a K9 handler/trainer friend who is going to help me with tracking with all three of them, and I'll be starting nosework, and possibly Barn Hunt for fun.

My dogs are all atypical for Mal's. Even so, they are more than most pet homes could handle, especially those who do nothing with their dog.

I don't travel unless they can go with. Most boarding facilities are only used to typical couch potato pets.

It's a life changing breed, you have to commit to making sure they have the regular training/mental stimulation.
I grew up around GSD's, and over the years I've had a variety of breeds, and was familiar with the Mal breed for 10+ years before I ended up with my first one from a rescue. Definitely an eye opener. LOL

Unfortunately, Malinois have become the popular breed, and there are way too many people breeding them that have no business breeding them. Mal rescues are regularly over flowing with them because people get them and cannot handle the breed traits.

They benefit more from mental stimulation, stuff that makes them think. Just doing physical exercise will get you a smart dog with ridiculous endurance. LOL

I remember him telling me he would hide scents around the house and they would play games where she would find them. It was very sad, they ended up putting her down after she got a disease that was explained to me like ALS for dog's. She was only 5.

You are doing great things with your dogs and sound like an incredibly good advocate for the breed. Your dogs are beautiful.

Took the pup to Glamis for the second time and she did so much better this trip. We practiced off leash training, walked the vendors to get used to crowds and she didn't care about fireworks. This is the best dog I've owned.

Dude shepherd huskies are awesome when you get the right traits of each. She's not as driven as a shepherd but she's still smart. She's goofy and talkative like a husky. We got lucky with this dog.

She had just finished a bunch of bite work when this was taken. Pretty sure she would have played fetch for as long as someone would've thrown a ball. #endlessenergy

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
Yes they do, but as long as you work on the command they will learn it. They also have strong bond with their family, so they will strive to make you happy and to gain your approval. My weim has some breaking problems as well. The way I have been working on it, is to hold his collar or leash and I don't let him go until he is laying down and calm and then I tell him to go. I have also moved up to a shock collar to help enforce a couple commands when he gets overwhelmed by by too many smells or doesn't want to listen.

I had a Shep/Husky mix. Did not play well with others. Excellent track/trail. Good obedience skills. Just not a dog with other dogs.
