    This is also why I was able to drive with a nuked cv lol. The splines just sheered off so the shaft stayed in the tulip and didn’t flop around, but it never spun with the tulip hahaha. Thank fuck too, I was NOT in a position to fix this thing at 8pm Christmas night

    What tooth count do you have on you speedo gear? I'm off (high) by about 9-10mph now, and so am thinking about getting a 33 tooth (I believe stock is 30, and you get ~3% per tooth)

    We have a real wood fire place in our living room ha. The chimney goes right through the garage. I’m curious if the garage gets noticeably hotter when there’s a good fire in the fire place

    The spindle? I’m not sure what you mean by spindle in relation to the cv axle

    OOHHH, ya thankfully. This was he inboard joint. These splines have that 3 bearing tulip thing on the end of it.Not the end that goes through the spindle

    Is it odd that there was so little engagement? It almost looks like the axle was falling out when the splines failed.

    Install was easy-peasy on mine. At 70 mph per GPS, my speedo reads ~72. When the tires were brand new, it was dead on 72. I noticed on the last trip, it is 72.5 now. I suspect, true 33s will make it even closer. Report back. :popcorn:

    Made it back to WY. Drove 99% of the 1200 miles below zero. Most of it at more than 10 below... Sucked. Gas mileage was horrible. Poor taco.

    Interesting, I've wrongly assumed that the denser air would provide more oxygen making for an easier time with fuel efficiency. Your post had me googling about it and there are many factors that work against it when it's cold. Crazy

    Yea it must get to a point and it goes the other way. My intake temps were nearly the same as ambient which is crazy to think about 10 below air entering the combustion chamber.

    Plus cold hard tires and gear oil.

    Im king of confused why, if the splines on the axle spun and sheered off, why would it also ruin the splines in the diff? The cv was the point of failure, in this case i cant imagine it failing then at one point and then working itself outwards and breaking more stuff. Im pretty sure the splines on the outter ends of the axle are both bigger, or at least mugh more length of engagement. which as mike pointed out was the problem here. But when pulling out the cv cup (hevent replaced it yet) it felt normal popping it out, and the splines on the axle shaft looked fine.

    correct. the bearing assembly that slides over the splines should be held between the snap ring and c clip, it clearly slipped past the snap ring and was working itself off the shaft, having about half the splines used as it should. Im thinking this happened engaging 4wd on the highway at speed and I just didnt notice in town till it actually snowed.

    It sounds like they think it's the shaft that goes into the diff when it's the inner shaft on the tulip inside the boot

    The other thing that I was thinking, is because the air is denser, there is more wind resistance at freeway speeds. But I could be totally wrong.
