I like the idea of quitting jobs....We can always video record it and turn it into a mini expedition overland!
I put in for some summer time off of work in August so maybe if it's approved I can turn that into the 2018 trip.

...I could probably pull it off. Might need to limit myself to 7-10 days though

Unrelated: how many miles does everyone get per tank? Just out of curiosity. Obviously we'll have to stop for gas but curious how long we should plan between civilization stops

Usually 250 on a good week, Id get an aux tank if they weren't so expensive, can't justify it for anything besides road trips and long distance off road expeditions, which there aren't many of around here.

I refuel around 300. I could get 340 if I want to push it to fumes.

    Happy New Year mothafuckas!

Here’s to us making it out west in 2018

I know for me that doing a trip like this is a life goal. I want to see it through this year. Can’t wait to do it with you guys. May the memory-making adventures begin!

Current plan is to take 3.5 weeks to do a trip after my wedding on Memorial day weekend this year, so June. There is a chance i'm going to need to postpone it unfortunately- took a shattered drill bit to the right eye a few months ago and I'm due for some cornea surgeries. If they add up, I won't be able to take the time off work. We'll see how it progresses. Wear your safety glasses fellas.

If we make the trip i'll report back with my findings. I've done the Alpine Loop and other trails down that way in the past. Awesome area. We stayed in Telluride. Didn't do Black Bear as they would't allow the rented Jeep on that one.

Yeah that's pretty much why I disappeared from the forums in October. Nearly lost the eye and spent the first month laying on my side with a gas bubble in my eye to keep the retina attached while it healed. Shit happens so fast.

They saved the retina though so once I get this cataract fixed and either repair or replace the cornea I should be able to see somewhat decently again. I really lucked out. I'm definitely going to be that old dude with a story when I tell people to put on their safety glasses lol.

Will it be a mechanical eye? You can still see right?

Man that sucks... Sorry to hear that, out of curiosity, what were you doing/working on when it happened? Was it at work?

It will be my real eye. But I lost most of my Iris so i'll have a prosthetic Iris maybe, or a colored contact, and a new lens. If they can't repair the cornea, they can do a transplant with a cadaver cornea. I guess that kinda makes me a cyborg eh. I can't really see much right now because the cornea is extremely misshapen from stitching it shut, and the cataract is washing shit out. But the retina is in decent shape so when they fix that stuff I should be okay.

I was drilling/tapping a piece of aluminum at work.

Can we nail down some dates? With the new year bring vacation picking time at work. I need to put in which weeks I want to use my 2 weeks for. I can always change it later, but only if that week isn't taken yet. Rather nail it down now.

Last week of August would be good. I can incorporate labor day into it and only take the one week.
