I don't know how to word it differently.

Rewarding a team that finished 3rd in conference for a loss is the problem I see. Even if you THINK they are one of the top 4.

    I can see that.

I guess you just have to look at that one loss to the number 7 team and compare it to how good the other teams are.

You know how sometimes the score of the game doesn't really tell the story of how the game went? Kinda the same thing with records. Records or standings must not tell the complete story of how good a team is, I guess.

Committee says conference titles matter: clearly not.

Committee says timing of loss matters: clearly not.

Committee says they want the 4 best teams: this is a matter of opinion.

see how unclear the selection process is? that's what's WRONG. the selection of top 4, in my opinion, was correct because I do in fact believe Alabama is one of the best 4, but per the other selection criteria Alabama didn't deserve it.

    get it?

that is correct (what I bolded). rankings are given out preseason based on...what...opinion? prediction? draw names out of a hat?

Auburn sucks, they are not the #7 team in the nation, mucho overrated. Alabama fans gave the argument all season that FSU was WAY BETTER when Bama beat them, but then they won't give credit and say OSU is a WAY BETTER team now than when they lost to Iowa. It's all opinion.

If the committee would come out and say "we pick by opinion, tv ratings, and money" then albeit they do it right every year lol

Timing of loss: Wisconsin lost later in the season.
Conference titles matter: They do, but less than 2 losses apparently, and one of those a blowout by an unranked conference opponent
Committee wants 4 best: Yes, opinion based. Based on the opinion of the committee, comprised of "Today's experts", if thats what you want to call em.

I do see how unclear it is. I also understand how the winner of the PAC didnt deserve to be in, and how if they put more relativity on conference championships, conferences will be less apt to schedule out of conference games.

There is no clear, consise way to pick the top 4, right now. The top 4 isn't really even an optimal format for a sport that has 5 "Power" conferences, as at least 1 will be left out, making conference championships not as important. This doesnt include the "Group of 5" even, and this is for the College Football Championship.

If they were to move to a 6 team playoff, include the 5 Power5 conference champions, and one Group of 5 champ, its still possible that because of one bad game, they best team in the nation actually gets left out. If everyone is watching teams with one loss or more play, yet USC was obviously the best team in the nation (hypothetical) and they arent in, because of a bad week late in the season, how legitimate is the playoff? Same as now? Maybe....maybe not.

But, OSU has 2 losses.....not just one, but TWO.

If OSU had only 1 loss, they'd be in. No doubt in my mind.

Edit: And, they'd have a clear cut, righteous reason to be in over Bama.

Geezus. So much arguing. UGA and Bama are playing Monday. No one else matters at this point :notsure:

All the talking heads (aside from shannon sharp) are saying OU gave that game away, Georgia didn’t win it. Still no respect

you can say Wisconsin lost later in the season all you want, but they went 12-0 in regular season when bama went 11-1. they played an extra game while bama rested. in my opinion that game isn't comparable since one played and the other didn't. had bama played, they might've lost.

when a year comes that bama isn't selected, no bama fan better have any sort of opinion about the selection process lol

the bama fans keep saying they aren't bothered by my opinion, but the constant quoting says otherwise lol.

The game I watched was indicative of a Kirby Smart defense. Torched a bit in the first half, luckily they kept up in scoring and kept it close. However, Kirby Smart understands with great depth how to make the right half time adjustments and slowed the OU offense enough to not only catch up, but overtake. Lincoln Riley got outcoached, and UGA played a pretty damn good game. They had more points on the scoreboard at the end of the game. Period.

even if the 1 loss was the blowout to Iowa? since it was later than the loss to OU, I think with the 1 loss they still would've been left out.

Just because I can continue a conversation doesn't mean I'm butthurt....

As far as bama not playing the week Wisconsin lost, the same scenario happens all season long with bye weeks. Just so happened, Bama was on a "bye".

Yes, even if the 1 loss was a blowout to Iowa....I think they would have been selected over Alabama this year.

UGA played great....in the second half. The defense finally showed up. Baker finally got hit and started seeing ghosts even when he wasn’t getting hit. I still just don’t understand why we threw the ball. I’ve never seen a team fall behind by so much and then RUN their way back into it instead of having to get pass happy to keep it close. Then again, there’s never been a RB duo like Chubb and Michel...

So a team is rewarded an extra bye for losing?

And no that's not the same as bye weeks throughout the season.

While your duo is quite dynamic (maybe the most), I think you'll find with a K.Smart coached team, that 1st halfs will be either boring or scary. UGA will look much like the past Alabama teams. Sketchy first half, half time adjustments, completely different team after half time. Get used to that. It sucks, but the defense will at least be just like that. Now, the offense may be different, but the defense should play out like that pretty much every game against a quality opponent.

So, had Alabama been on a bye week in week 8 and Wisconsin lost, you'd expect Wisconsin to still be ranked higher?
