Anyone at Hill A.F.B. Or have experience there?

Looking at a possible DoD civilian transfer to there for my wife and have a few questions.

My cousin is stationed there...housing near the base is meh. Traffic/commute in SLC is hellish. Can't tell you any more about it

I’ve been TDY there several times as military and federal employee. Cost of living makes me think GS-12 or better, not knowing current grade or lifestyle.

Thanks, we were told to check out Ogden area for housing.

She’s above 12 and we don’t have a problem living within our means. The gig referred is a logistics thing that is perfect for her. The location by comparison to Scott AFB is heaven for me with my desire to visit parks and camp.

The good news is that the days of weak beer are over. There are officially more Catholics in Utah than Mormons...and there ain’t no telling a Catholic they can’t drink. I was in SLC last year for training - beautiful city, good food and local beer, and everyone is polite to a fault. Hard not to like.

I was stationed there from 1988 - 1992-ish, so it's been awhile ago, but we absolutely loved it there. Lots to see and do for the outdoorsman. If you're a skier, even better. I played lots of golf when I was there and there are plenty of good courses in the area and the base had a really good one when I was there. And, I'm sure I don't need to tell you about all the lands and public parks in southern Utah!

We lived in Ogden until we were able to move on base. If I were there now, I'd probably live further out - maybe the other side of Ogden or Brigham City. We drove through there last summer on our way to visit family in Idaho and it had changed a lot since we were there last probably 20 years ago.

I got a laugh out of the change in signage at Applebee’s bar & grill when we were there last. I don’t drink so that doesn’t concern me but living in a rural German/Polish Catholic Farm town I know what you mean about the drinking. The parish priests make and consume homemade fruit wines and all the fish and chicken dinners have beer flowing.

This is how you drive around with a blown up cv, and it not make any noise or cause any disturbance in driving, other than not having 4wd

She’s a loggie and leaving Scott? That’s where I head to for most conferences or occasionally St. Louis for the larger venues. Cool little Brewery/Eatery up in O’Fallon I try to hit when there.

Illinois is sucking everyone dry now. They haven’t had a fixed budget in years, last two governors are in federal prison for fraud, and the locals just want to find mud holes to engage 4wd. We want out of the state for those reasons and many more and Utah would certainly be a step in the right direction for us.

Let me know when you will be back and if we are available we can meet somewhere. Always fun to meet TacomaWorld people. We love the food at “The Hop House” and at “Peel” in O’Fallon.
