Same here. This may be the hardest work day of the year.

 

I actually got called in to the office for part of the day on Saturday because somebody else was scheduled, asked for the day off (on Friday, no less!), was denied, and then called out 'sick' instead. That was fun.

Going forward, I'm not picking up my cell phone when my boss calls me on a Saturday.

I had been doing so well with cutting back to only 2 cups of coffee a day from 6-8. This weekend reverted me back to my old ways, so I will be having a few more cups today haha

 

Thank God!!!! Sunday I had to limp my truck to work at 15-20mph because my rearward alignment bolts loosened up, and every bump would cause an incredible death-wobble!

Tightened up and rechecked all of my alignment bolts. I also took this opportunity to swap my 700lb coils for the 600's I bought recently. The 600's got the front end a little lower with some preload. I will adjust them down a bit more just to get me as much clearance between the outer CV and the LCA. I really need to make some 1/4" spacers for the knuckle just to give me a little more travel without ripping off the boots! The driver's boot I was able to clean out, repack, and reband, but the passenger side outer boot is TRASHED.

Once I get these spacers, I'm gonna get her aligned all pretty-like, then tack weld the alignment cams in place. Hopefully that'll help me out a bit!

Could I guess, but after 18 years of service I'd be giving up 5 weeks vacation time and a pension (which I don't pay into)

 

Yeah pension is hard to walk away from

 

Especially since it's not like I'd be going to another place that will have it.

That and the insurance I have..matters more now since I'm 44 and she's 56

 

What are you looking to do with this battery? Personally, an AGM isn't worth the price unless you're looking to do unusual things with it (like mount it sideways, weird draw/discharge cycles, temperature extremes, etc). If you're just looking for it to behave as a regular old car battery they really aren't worth the extra price over a conventional wet-cell unit in my opinion.

I would call these temps relatively extreme lol but i will be adding more accessories to the vehicle.

Haven't even looked at that one. I have more reading to do lol. Did you need a different battery holder or anything?

 

I run a Toyota replacement 27F in the reg cab and got the 72 month battery which I think is 3 year free replacement and the rest of the time is half price for replacement. I think it was $120

 

That's whats in mine, it has lasted almost 5yrs but last winter and this winter even more so it struggles.

 

I run the Northstar 27F and these -15 to -20 degree mornings I'm experiencing are no match for it. The truck turns over on the first try though it takes a little bit longer. Solid investment IMHO.

 

x2. I'd go for the higher end of the Autozone brand and that's about it (and likely what I'll have to do if this cold persists). The Ford was slow to start the last few days also. Battery is about 5 years old so I suppose it's time...

 

My advice is to go with a quality version of a popular brand from a national chain (NAPA, Etc), personally. Murphy's law is that it ever gives you trouble, it'll be when you need a new one right away and can't wait for some company in California (even though they cause cancer there) to mail it to you. And if you go with one from a national chain, you'll probably be able to find one relatively easy even if you're traveling.

Edit- FWIW, the bottom-end NAPA battery in my plow truck turns 5 in a couple of weeks, only gets used once every week or two, and still starts a carbureted old truck even in weather like what we've been having. And when I'm plowing it runs the plow headgear lights, running lights, the whirly light, and two spotlights on the rear bumper.
