Got my Glenmorangie Lasanta for Christmas! Had a few nips, found it does better with a bit of water and a bit of time to sit before drinking. I think my next addition will be something Irish. Going to have an international cast of whiskey/whisky/bourbon in my cabinet.

I recently tried Jameson and thought it was more bourbon-like (butterscotch/vanilla/oak). It's light and approachable, but if you like bigger flavors, you may want to try something else.

The taste comes on bold(in a very good way) and then smooths out for a nice lingering taste. You can pick up on the grain and/or wood with a hint of pepper then it smoothes out with a caramel or vanilla notes. It doesn't taste too close to other bourbons but would compare to EH Taylor or even the finish like Whiiett pot still. I do recommend it.

I tried the small batch bottle. I liked it but it tasted a little green like it needed more time in the barrel.

Tried the Blender's Dog on New Years Eve. It was highly recommended by a guy I trust at my local LS. It was really good but I think the Monkey Shoulder is just as good at half the price. Maybe my taste is not sophisticated enough to appreciate the difference :notsure:

My father and I are engine boat builders. We have built many boats over the years, and a while back decided to enter the turbine field. This is a project we did a number of years ago.

It is 20' Rodgers hull, with a Lycomming 1300 HP T-53 Gas Turbine engine, spinning a 24" Enarson surface piercing drive through a Cassel v-drive. The boat has a top speed of 145mph, and can do 0-60 in about 7 seconds by braking the output shaft, loading the turbine, then releasing the braking for a great hole-shot. The boat is built right, and is turn key.

The rub is, we can build piston engines that make this HP, but the rebuild schedule would be high, and any long term stay @ 100% would most certainly grenade a piston engine, thats how the turbine differs. It can run at 100% all day long with no ill effects. In fact, turbines run their coolest at high throttle percentages.

Thoughts on Monkey Shoulder? Anyone pick up even the faintest hints of rubber/band-aid? Apparently, I'm oversensitive to that particular smell/taste. I get it with Highland Park 12, Johnnie Walker Black (or is that Blech), and oddly enough, I got it with Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. I'm guessing that can also come from the malted barley since Glenmorangie doesn't use peat/smoke.

Thanks, but I should point out 2 things...noise and mileage. It is loud. VERY loud. We wear helicopter noise canceling head gear while operating, and the thing guzzles 100 gallons per hour @ speed. It was common to drop 3 or 4 hundo for fuel on a short afternoon.

I drink it pretty often and don't notice a rubbery taste. I know @CaptAmerica is also a fan of MS.
