I just think its ridiculous that 313 of you are afraid to use anything but a Toyota stamped paper filter. All hail our corporate overlords.

I'm not afraid to use a non-OEM part. I am afraid to use a non-OEM spec part.

Never had anything with a warranty either, I just know it is an easy cop out for them if something goes wrong.

I run a paper Wix in everything.

If Toyota wants to come up with an excuse to not fix a warranty issue they will or blame some one else they will.
My brothers 2009 Tacoma with 57,000 miles had an issue with the Security immobilizer.
The immobilizer would not let the truck be started only at random times, most the times died from a dead stop at a gas station. The truck left him stranded time and time again. Toyota said that it was because a back up camera was installed in the truck, even though they couldn't prove it. My brother had the ECU replaced, the keys replaced, the antenna replaced, the wiring replaced EVERY part of the immobilizer was replaced and still the truck would lock itselfs down by the immobilizer and wouldn't start. Toyota had the truck for three months trying to fix it, they gave up, charged him $4000 for all the work and said the warranty was not covered because a backup camera was installed in the wiring harness, He had to sell it because of this and toyota still charged him 4000, so even if you have a warranty toyota will not necessarily honor it, they will cop,out if they can,
Those of you that have the Toyota immobilizer system be prepared!!

Not afraid at all. I have a question: Why would you even want to go aftermarket with a filter? There are only three reasons to ever change anything. They are:
    1. Performance
    2. Looks
    3. Cost
We can't see It, the cost is negligible and the performance is... all it's gotta do is filter air! Not a rough job. So with that said, Why? Especially knowing if you F up it can cost you an engine. What I can't understand is how 30 of you didn't get the memo.

All this because one 3rd gen 3.5 engine failed.

The original thread was more fun at least.

Yes of course, the company that installed it he had them remove it, the backup camera was not the problem, Toyota just used that as an excuse to wash their hands of the problem

Technically 2 engines. Remember, dick stump toasted not one but TWO engines. Now he strolls in looking for a 3rd one in 55k miles. Toyota saw an engine bay full of mud and 2 scattered engines and said...."You're air filter fucked up your engine. No 3rd engine for you. Beat it".

Translation: You're a negligent, irresponsible owner and we will not give you a 3rd engine at our expense.

I highly doubt the filter actually caused the damage. The idiot behind the wheel is the real culprit
