My creaking clutch seemed to have been finally fixed. They removed the pivot point and added grease and it's been a few weeks with no issues.

I also got better using it offroad in 4LO going up and down some good size hills with no stalling.

If it starts creaking again try some disc brake grease on the pivot points

Spent the last couple weeks frantically scrambling around and managed to secure this unicorn on New Year's Eve :D

Bit the bullet trading in the abomination of an Auto trans for one of the last '17 MT's in this spec in the nation. So stoked. Its feels good to be back!

 That would be interesting to watch for sure!
Try going from a Stage 3 URD clutch to a finicky WRX/STi clutch! My FJ is too foolproof to drive, I need that reminder that I suck every once in a while  If I time it right, when it's cold, I can start in 1st, half press the clutch then immediately pop it, which will make it slowly engage. I have a manually shifted automatic until it gets to operating temp lol
Absolutely! Usually I lean in, turn the key, make sure I'm in neutral, press the button, and crank it. That's the most common use for my CSC button.

If I absolutely have to start in gear, I will.
Block heater would help the block stay warm, but it comes up to temp fairly quickly, especially seeing as it was -40 with windchill last night!

Letting my truck idle for 15-20 minutes when it is this cold certainly makes a hugeeeee difference, and I mean a [IMG] difference! Turns my clutch pedal from an almost impossible leg press, to a rather stiff and laggy, but useable clutch. Takes about 30 minutes of running and driving before the clutch feels 100% when its this cold.
Agreed, but it's not an issue with shifting in my case, it's getting the clutch to disengage so I can bang this bad Larry into gear!

I got my truck even cheaper because it was a 6speed. The dealer I work at could not sell it because “no one” drives them anymore. So on top of my employe price they lower it a lowered it a little more so I would buy it. I love that thing. Just moved to Houston and I towed my wife’s car. So happy that it was manual because a few hills I would have died in not being able to control the truck the way I did.

I have a 6spd Frontier, it doesn't shift too nicely in cold weather. Switching to Redline MT-85 helped immensely, letting it idle for about 3 minutes is best, shifts perfect then. I'm going to try a 120v heating pad on a timer, one on the engine oil pan as well.

I was thinking of an engine block heater running off of a dual battery setup, but my alternator has 176k on it.. Don't want to push my luck lol

anyone having trouble with your floor mats? I just got my 2018 access cab, MT, v6 a week ago. they made a big deal about putting in the "all weather mats". the drivers mat is to big where it covers the dead pedal. when you press the clutch, you end up pulling up the mat. took it back in tonight, service guy agrees with me, called Toyota, and now they have emailed the pictures to the engineers...
    anyone else?

Are you sure they gave you Manual Trans Specific Mats? They had Automatic Mats in my 2017 and had to get the correct ones.

You got the automatic version. Same thing happened to me - mom bought me the mats for Christmas and on the first drive I had to take a detour to the dealership (where she got them from) because it was a mess to drive with. They looked up my VIN to get the parts page for it (whatever that entails) and found that the mats connected to my VIN weren't the ones she got. They (and yours as well) likely just saw "Toyota Tacoma Access Cab" and went with the thing most people get because, let's face it, our MTs are rare.

Traded them for the correct mats the next day and that dead pedal area is much smaller, more fit to the dead pedal itself. I don't even know why they make a version that's wider even for autos. Tell your dealer to look it up by VIN/search for the actual manual mats.

Even a small block heater draws over 700 watts. Your second battery wouldn't power that for very long.

They would have had the correct mats from the dealer. When the dealer Pdied the truck they installed the wrong auto ones.

    Mostly stuff I built.

I poured mine full of 3M windshield urethane adhesive it helped out a ton on stiffening up the drivetrain.

I explained that the mats said automatic transmission on them, when they ordered the replacement mats from new York. They took the vin off my registration. they are telling me that there are not different mats for the 2018 Tacoma....ughh

The Mats were definitely different on my 17, the fit around the Transmission Tunnel with the Automatic Mats sucked, huge gap around it.

Man! I miss my 07 FJ 6MT! I had to have the trans rebuilt twice due to the synchros going to hell twice, but it sure was an easy driving rig. Thirsty though, at an avg MPG of 16.5. The full-time 4WD was nice for fooling around in the desert too, especially the washes.

Tell your dealership that they’re retarded.

Though maybe there really aren’t different mats for 2018 and you just got the 2017 version last time? I’m still leaning toward the first option though.

I believe the 2018 mats are different. Someone posted a pic of the passenger side with the latches, just like the driver's side. Getting a 2017 set would not be the way to go unless they break up the set.
