did you brake-in with lucas 85w 140 or Lucas 80w90? yes ecgs says 85w 140 but I wonder if that would be a better post break-in viscousity. When the daily temps are near freezing (where I reside) you wonder if the upper end of the range prevents proper heating/cooling cycles?

That's an awesome price....makes me want to reach out to ECGS and schedule an appointment for my Taco sooner rather than later.

Does anyone know if I’m supposed to keep it in 4wd to break in the fronts as well??

Don’t keep it in but put it in once in a while. I put it in 4H during the break in while driving in town on straightaways.

So does it get the gear oil changed when the rear is at 500? Or when they both are over 500?

I was told by ECGS not to worry about break-in mileage on the front. Run it safely (don’t cause any binding) enough in 4H to get things moving in there as much as you can then change out oil in both after break-in. I probably had 10-15 miles on my front when I changed it with the rear.

If anyone with a MT is having ECGS do their 4.88 install, shoot me a PM. I want to do a diff swap with someone with a MT, so I don't have to pay $1200 for labor on a complete 4.30 regear. Not really interested in 4.88's as I drive far too much highway and don't need that low of a gear.

oh I wish I was in FL! Did hear back from ecgs - top notch customer service - if temps during 1st 500 are near freezing for extended duration Lucas 80w90 dyno is okay. After change go with recommended Lucas 85w 140 dyno.
