I installed your product about a year and a half ago. It's been great until recently. The lever had been getting softer in feel as of late and one day I heard a little snap. After opening the tailgate cover I was able to see the pin inside that actuates and pushes on the lever had broken off.
I think the pin being made of plastic creates a weak point in the mechanism.

Are the newer versions the same or made of stronger materials?

    Hi @Tridet167 ,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with our product. The handles were updated about two summers ago to a glass filled nylon plastic which is more of OE quality. Due to the issue that you have experienced, we would warranty the whole product for you. Could you send an email to customerservice@popandlock.net with the same issue explanation and a couple of pictures? They will be able to further assist you and send out a new unit.

Thank you for contacting us. If you have any questions feel free to message me back.

    Thank you!

I've got the same problem! Haven't used my P&L in a while because the handle pin snapped off. Had to disassemble the tailgate to get it to open.

What I did to have a working tailagate...
I drilled a small hole, along where the pin was, towards the outside. I had used a regular wood screw on attempt 1 but with time it slipped and fell out. Found some sleeve screws and gave it a try second time around.
Because the head sticks out, it has to move upward and clear the upper part and go under the lip. That is why I had to carve out a bit of the upper section. Works great.
Trying to get it replaced under warranty but I can't find my invoice so I guess I'm stuck with this for ow.

That's a smart way to fix it, thanks! I can't tell you how many people I've seen on the FB page lately with broken P&L handles, it's ridiculous. I looked for my invoice too, but can't find it. Won't ever buy one again, the plastic is crazy thin compared to OEM and for the cost, absolutely not worth it.

I wish they would just do the right thing and replace the lock regardless of proof of purchase. If the locks are out there, they were sold. I understand it's a big undertaking financially to replace all the locks but it's not customers' fault products were poorly made. Anyway, it is what it is.
I had an idea of going back to the original and adding a lock to the inside top corner. I have a bed cap so I would open the window and then unlock the tailgate on the inside top corner. I'll post here what I come up with with.

I had the same problem where the interior piece broke and had to disassemble the tailgate to get to it. Also my lock mechanism was busted and would not take a key anymore. I have been hesitant about ordering a new one due to my fear of this happening again

Well they don't seem to give two shits about people who have bought their product before, so I won't be spending any more $ on their 'new gen' stuff.

I think it wasn't handled well from the start. This thread shouldn't have been here if we all had replacements.

So after some time with the latch modified to make things work, it became annoying to open the tailgate at times. I added the stock lock back and because I have a cap with locking door, I added a latch on the inside on the tailgate.
