I have a 4cyl and while the v6 is nice, i really think the 4cyl is a better engine.. from a longevity and indestructibility stand point. I have yet to see any of the v6's last as long with no real problems.. Being the 4cyl is the cast iron block and aluminum head.. they are really just a revision of the R series.. which are legendary.. Not to mention i am getting 26mpg on the highway.. if i keep it under 75..

But i agree.. I needed a V8 in highschool too.. So i got my 5.Slow fox body with it's epic 175Hp.. and ran my quarter miles in a longer time than a new base model toyota corolla.. LOL..

Part of that (I would argue) is due to the inline engine. Vshaped engines don’t last as long because they are unbalanced.

The problem with the 4 cyl is no power or capability. I needed payload and tow capacity in a truck back then. Can’t put a gooseneck in a 4 banger Taco.

My brother drove a 4 cyl Ranger back in the day. Thing couldn’t get to 65 if there was a head wind haha. His favorite vehicle to date though.

I wish they'd have kept making inline-6 engines like they had in the old Land Cruisers! Put those in the Tacomas!

That's the old 4.0 or AMC motor.. that was a great engine.. probably one of the best made engines ever out of an american car company.. I would honestly buy one of those, and that says a lot, because...

I look at american cars like owning a gym membership.. With a Gym membership you pay x amount of dollars to walk on a treadmill while people stare at you through the front windows as they walk by.. When you own an american car, you pay a monthly fee to the bank, and get to walk home when it leaves you stranded on the side of the road.. while other motorists pass by and stare at you..

There's a big difference between the lima 2.3 or mazda 2.5 and the taco 2.7 in the 15 tacoma.. the 2.3 made at best 98hp, and the 2.5 i believe made 101hp.. The 2.7 makes 175hp and 160lbft of torque.. for someone who just wants to make home depot runs it is fine.. though i will agree, i drove mine three months ago from ohio to orlando.. i will say it could use a 6th gear.. though it was fine.. and made it.. no problem..

    All that said..
The Tacoma really isn't a good truck for a gooseneck period..
I would think a diesel or v8 would be much better, as they make the low end torque you would likely need to move a heavy weight trailer.. Or for that matter the 4.0HO in the jeep.. while it may not be a race car engine, they are pretty torquey..

This used to be the driver's door handle on a 2005 Chevy Cobalt. The owner works on the beer lines at the bar where I work, and he uses the Cobalt as his beater/work vehicle...

At the start of this cold wave a few days ago, the handle just broke off in his hand...

Someone ran the VIN and found some potential issues. May have been involved in an accident with frame damage, plus the dealer selling it has a sketchy reputation.

I'm in northern MN and do not use any type of heaters (block, pan, battery). My truck has been kept outside and has started every day. That's with the original battery too (2012). I use synthetic oil and Amsoil Severe Gear in my diffs and TC (wider range of temperature tolerances).

I will concede however, I do use a remote starter. :)

    This is weird...

It's a late model Nissan Sentra that apparently just got inspected...

The red sticker that says 12/17 on it is safety, and the orange sticker that says 12/18 on it is emissions...

    image.jpg

This would indicate that this Sentra did not pass the safety inspection? Why?!?! I dunno...

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. This further proves my point about how screwed up PA state inspection is. Some mechanics get it and will only fail a vehicle for something that is genuinely unsafe, like severe rust, brakes that are worn out, lights that don't work, or bald tires. Other mechanics are dicks and will fail a vehicle because the wipers are worn out, or because a headlight is out of alignment (but still functional).

Also, what do you think is one of the first things cops look for during a traffic stop...?

    YUP! Expired inspection stickers!

My boss was waiting at a red light doing absolutely nothing wrong a few years ago, and was driving a company vehicle. A cop pulled up beside her and made her pull over because the inspection stickers on a vehicle that wasn't even hers were 3 months past expiration...

    $128 ticket!

Honestly, I think all Pennsylvanians should boycott the annual inspection. The police can't stop and/or ticket everybody...

As for the Sentra, the car could have passed emissions and failed the safety inspection for a multitude of things and perhaps the owner wanted to fix it on their own. For example: brakes, rotors, chip in windshield, tires, etc.

Had this happen to a vehicle I owned and I ended up having safety and emission stickers that did not match. I replaced brakes and rotors and took it back to get the sticker.
