Quarter reps on leg press is just as good as an a2g squat, right?

Nothing is as good as a squat but a squat.

When it comes to the main 5 there are no modifications, there are no replacements
, and there are no excuses!

Imagine Jack Nicholson saying that in his “A Few Good Men” role and you’ll catch my drift ;)

Yall talmout ego lifters. I hate that shit. There's a big group of guys at my gym that think they can squat 500 lbs because they quarter rep it. They do the same shit with every lift. Drives me nuts that they think they're that strong. Idiots.

I don't think that's true. A low bar squat makes you bend over more due to its lower position, which puts more strain on the hamstrings.

What if you're like me and have anterior pelvic tilt and an inch below parallel is literally the furthest down you can go? I've been doing hip flexor stretches to get more ROM, but it's a slow process.

I was literally reading up on this yesterday. The squat university guy has a couple articles on it.

I say work on ROM like your life depends on it. 5-6 times per day. 90-120 second holds.

So what happens if you squat too much and have to fall? Do you just break your hips?

This is a genuine question I’m not being a smart ass.
I have only fallen once but I imagine if you have lack of ROM to go down squating would just be painful.

After working on your ankle and hip mobility there’s not much else you can do. Not everyone is built to squat atg without anterior tilt.

I literally do squats every week and when I do low bar I feel it more in my hams and when I do high bar I feel it more in my quads. Fuck squat university and fuck reading, ya nerd.

If I squat too much, I bail. I've only ever had to bail once because I don't squat more than I think I can do. I do ATP stretches 2-3 times a week and that's about as good as it's going to get. I can do a squat that would count in any powerlifting competition, so I'm happy with it...it's an inch or 2 below parallel. I'm not going to lose any sleep over not being able to pick up a grape off the floor with my buttcheeks when squatting.

    This.

    So New Years resolutions:

After trial I’m going to attempt to lose 20lbs by Memorial Day. This puts me at 10% BF. I will bulk the remainder of the year.

I would also like to get my bench 1RM to 300 by the end of the year.

    Everyone else go!

That’s assuming you solely lose fat and keep your muscle mass the same. What’s your bench max right now?

Losing fat without muscle = really genetically gifted or on gear not saying you can’t do it but if you do and you’re not genetically gifted then don’t claim natty. I mean it’s not like it’s a bad thing to not be natty but just don’t be that guy

I like how you guys think I care to be that specific lol

I wanna lose 20lbs I dont really give a shit if I lose a pound of muscle in the meantime and my numbers aren’t exactly 10% bf

I’m not a bodybuilder. I just want to be leaner so I’be got room to bulk up again.

    2018 goals:

    squat: 500
    bench: 405
deadlift: ??? My back really can't take heavy deadlifting anymore, so I'm going to try to focus on getting 500 clean and with better form and then reassess

If you lose 20lbs you might be 10% bf but being skinny and being lean are 2 very different things. I used to be sub 150 sub 10%bf and I was a pipsqueak. I was 165 ~12%bf last spring and at least looked like I could lift a little. Now I’m 178 ~16%bf and I look leaner than before and feel better and am 100% stronger.

If your bench max is 265 right now and you drop 20lbs you’ll lose a ton of strength with it. Your goals still aren’t making any sense which we discussed before this idea of losing a shit ton of weight to just turn around and bulk again. You can work on body recomposition without sacrificing strength and other gains

    Won’t be long young padawan

My ultimate goal is to be around 12-15% body fat. If I slim down it gives me room to bulk for a long while in a controlled manner so I can reach strength goals while not being so fat I hate how I feel (like now).

From what I understand its a waste of time to attempt to recomp as a beginner. I’m better off losing and regaining than fucking around trying to recomp for months and gaining zero strength and not losing weight. I tried recomping recently. Pissed away months getting nowhere. I don’t have the discipline to stay that perfect on my cals every single day.

Back to resolutions. I set my goals as they are for a reason. I don’t want to nit pick the details.
