OK, So this morning i finally go to pick up my new 2010 toyota tacoma trd off road, automatic crew cab. I bought it for 29500 here in NY, and it came with roof racks and at the time i put the deposit down the dealer told me he would also include a off road skid plate.

I go to pick it up this morning and there is no skid plate and i mention it to him and he says that he only said the factory one on the window sticker was included. Upon argueing with him he admits it was his mistake but tell me he sold me the truck at invoice and cannot include it. I got the invoice and sent it to the bank and i leave with telling him that it was his error and he must include it or i will be buying elsewhere...I leave the dealer and send the invoice to the bank to get a check cut

He just called me twice (1st call went to voicemail) and told me he cannot include it even tho it was his error. I ended with telling him i'd have to think about it

What would you do? Personally i am kind of pissed right now b/c he is trying to dick me for a 200- accessory that he told me was included

EDIT: I can't believe i forgot to mention this earlier. I had to wait an hour and 40 minutes this morning just to get the invoice! Then i was insulted my the sales officer and told i was making a "dick move" by not financing through them! He asked me why i didn't finance with them and i told him that my bank matched toyotas offer and that it was a lot easier for me this way. He responded with "that's a real dick move, don't you think". F'in Asshole should have just been happy i decided to buy a truck from them in the first place. This dealerships really pissing me off, this was suppost to be a very happy day for me picking up my new truck and instead i just feel insulted a screwed out of a skidplate.

forget it..that thing is junk...looks awefull too (in my opinion it makes your truck look lower to the ground)....they look great on trucks that are lifted 6 inches...but that does not fix the problem of it only being a THIN piece of metal for show only!

If you want to hardball it just ask him if he wants to jeopardize a 29K deal over $200.00. Tell him that if he does, that tells you all you need to know about that dealership and take your business elsewhere. It's your money until you hand it over to them.

If you really want the truck and don't want to hardball it tell him OK, I'll take the truck without the plate, but I need 200.00 worth of perks with no expiration date (Like a complete detail including clay bar, polish and wax, etc. or several oil changes w/synthetic oil and factory filter).

    back to bone stock.
ask for a voucher for an additional 2 tanks of gas? bottomline, ask him what he can do. i bet a salesman has the power to give out gas, not skidplates.

It is a thin piece of aluminum and is only for looks. I gave mine away to a member with a 2 wheel drive because he liked the looks. If you hit anything it will bend. Not worth $50.00.

x4...buyer's market, fuck him & his can't shit. Won't do it is the correct term. Make sure when you go elsewhere to purchase that you roll back to the original place, talk to the new car sales mgr, show him your new ride, point out that his dealership didn't make the sale because of the dick salesperson, tell him to have a nice day & leave all feelin good.

You've missed the point of the thread. Maybe he already knows all that and is why he wants it thrown in for free.

I agree with this. Whether he chooses to honor the agreement or not you can afford to wait a day or two. The price of the truck sounds great. If he calls and again says he can't do it, ask him to make you another offer.
Some examples: wash and wax, window tint, fuel, oil changes, maintenance, mats, bug shield, sex with his girlfriend.
If he says he can't then you must either go down the road or accept his mistake and hopefully apology and take the truck as is..

good luck and if he chooses the girlfriend, send pics. Some of us might be interested in another truck...

    lots of great advice here

i wouldn't have told him you'd think about it, but now that you have, tell him you've made your decision

    he misrepresented the deal

he owes you a skidplate, call the service manager and get that item ordered and the schedule the install

and don't hesitate to tell him what the finance guys said to you

they'll take care of you on the make-good

elevate it beyond sales to the other departments

and let them know you don't want to have contact Toyota directly, but a deal is a deal

they don't want or need the heat

i had the same issue with the satellite radio in 2 Priuses ... leased two, bought one, in 2008

one had the satellite, two did not

    sales busted my balls,
    service manager made it right
they came to my office and did the install, paid for three months of service,
apologized until their throats were dry

i didn't hesitate, by the way, to explain that my next call was to the owner of the dealership and to toyota, and by example i explained how when i had trouble with a credit bureau, i called the governor of georgia and the ceo of the credit bureau, and not only was the problem solved in an hour, and to my satisfaction, but it created unsolvable problems for the employees who failed to make it right

be calm, cool, collected and focused, and get what you bargained for
sometimes telling them Ford makes a nice truck is all it takes

it is a poker game now, I would just tell them you are going to walk and call their bluff. You agreed to a deal, they should honor that. the finance guy comment was a shitty statement as well...I wouldn't give them my business unless they made it right.

All the comments about holding your ground on the skidplate offer are valid. They should keep their word whether the skidplate is worth anything or not, that's not the point. If they don't keep their word, walk away if there is a reasonable possibility of getting the truck elsewhere. I bet the store manager would make it right.

The crack about the financing would have made most buyers walk out then and there. The guy who made that crappy comment needs to be fired. You're the one who has to make the payments.
