Scentwork games are a lot of fun for them. :)

DM (degenerative myelopathy). It's a horrible disease. :(
I've seen breeders say they don't test for it because it's not prominent in the Malinois breed, but it's out there, and if breeders aren't testing, it will become prominent. My older male is a carrier for DM. It was originally believed that carriers were not at risk pf getting it, but I have heard of three confirmed cases of carriers (not Malinois) that got DM. I'm hoping that is not the case with my boy.

    Thank you! :)
This breed got me into dog sports. They're a lot of fun, if you have the time to put into them.

How do you know if your dog needs some sort of winter protection? I don't think my Golden needs a coat or anything but I can't tell if she gets cold or not on our evening walks when its 5 degrees out. We dont go too far this time of year, she gets ice and snow built up in the fur between her paw pads and we have to stop every 50 feet or so to clean them out otherwise she starts limping. I was actually thinking of trying a set of those dog winter shoes/boots. Anyone have luck with them?

We tried the ones commonly available and they came with a patterned sole like a running shoe. She hated them and would just stand there giving me the stink eye. Now she has some neoprene ones for winter and cordura for other seasons. Add some mushers secret before putting them on and she’s off and running without issue.

Link to neoprene model, can’t recall where we got the other ones.

I'm was really happy when my dogs puppy teeth were gone. I was covered in scrapes until a few months ago from him.

Yes, I've started using an ecollar as well. It took a bit for us to get over. My wife and I used it on ourselves first, lol. We've used it to teach "place", "heel" and recall. As you said, on recall it's very helpful. If she's hell bent on whatever she's going after, she'll raise her head, look for you, and come running. I have no qualms about using it now. Although, she did go after some lady's picnic at the off leash beach one day. Even the ecollar on a 30 wasn't breaking her drive. She just barked and dove right back in. Who the hell goes to an off leash beach and starts breaking food out, anyhow? What's wrong with people?

The lady was like "oh' it's okay" with open arm. I replied "sorry, but I cannot allow this behavior". I grabbed her collar and went on my way. Seriously people, puppies grow into dogs! What's cute at 40lbs will get me sued later when she's 70lbs+. I obviously still haven't gotten over it. ha ha

My wife got her a vest the says "In Training". I hope this stops strangers from running up to her without asking.

That might be worse. You’re gonna get bombarded with questions about the training. :D

My wife and I photograph our dogs every year for our holiday card. Some are more involved than others. This years card was somewhat simple, but still took some time to put together.

Kirby is on the left. She's blind as a bat, stubborn as a mule, and very difficult to photograph. Lobo is on the right. He's smart but goofy, will break through a window to eat the mailman, but is very easy to photograph.

His favourite toy is a traffic cone. Has three of them, but likes this one best. And loves playing with it in the snow.

I use Musher's Secret and Tuff-foot on my dogs, it helps prevent their pads from tearing in herding.

I use it by itself without boots. I just goop it in-between the paws so nothing can get stuck up there which is the reason for limping.
