On a Dec 2016 built 2017 TRDOR, so far only low trans oil fill. Driven over a lot of rough roads. Crossing fingers.

    Update.
They determined that my rear brake drums are warped and they will resurface them. I pulled the e brake to stop at a light today and indeed they are badly warped.

They were unable to duplicate the misfire or stalling and indeed today, of all days, the truck has never ran so well and is suddenly getting close to 20mpg when it could barely hold 18 before.

    Weird!

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
Interesting about the warped drums. I'll climb way out on a limb and predict your misfire/stalling condition will promptly recur. The challenge will be in repeatedly bringing it back in and having them repeat test drives for it to happen to them. Insist on them performing a legitimate test drive of an adequate time and distance to give it the opportunity to act up. Even if you have to let their tech drive it around a few days. Good luck on this issue.

A dead miss is very noticeable on every engine I have ran. You can still get where you need to go or whatever... you feel like a B-17 with three engines shot out as you do it though.

Hard to believe the drum brakes caused an issue...they are bomb diggity bullet proof.

I've had the misfire issue also. It commonly sounds like rattling or popcorn going off. Very odd. I switched from 87 to 89 ( midgrade) and it did help. But it still happens. I believe it has to due with the high pressure fuel pump and direct injection not delivering a consistent volume. When the truck is fueled with a full tank it runs like a champ, as it nears empty or half tank I noticed the misfire sounds occuring. I tried using a OB2 logger like torque but no codes pop up.

I'd have to do it on real time monitoring.

They do get out of round, or are not machined correctly when new.

I had a shimmy on braking very early on in the life of my 2017 OR. I took it into the shop and they replaced the drums. Said they were likely out of round.

It has braked okay since replacing the drums.

Mine also had a warped / out of round drum that was causing noise and vibrations on the highway as well as some shimmying when coming to a stop on a hill. Symptoms were very similar to the driveline TSB out there, but ultimately was solved with a replacement drum for my driver's side. The one thing Toyota made right with my new truck and its problems - so there's that

I had the same issue happen with my 2018 Tacoma Sport with just 500 miles on it. It would shake when braking at higher speeds and braking at slow speeds I could feel the pulsing of the brakes. They turned both rear drums and the problem went away. Now with around 1600 miles, it almost feels like its coming back...

I am having the same issues with my 2016 as described here, engine has a miss and vibration on deceleration and braking.

The Dealership Service Department has confirmed the engine miss, they said they could tell as soon as they started it up that it was not running correctly.

The problem is that it is not throwing codes, they have had it for three days now and they are no closer to resolving the issue.

They have replaced the Crank Shaft Position Sensor and they even swapped out the Air Supply Module???

They say the next step may be the Toyota Tech Help Line.

They are very confident they will figure it out but so far it is a mystery...

    EDIT:
Any thoughts from anyone out there greatly appreciated.

I would push for new drums...

From experience the new set of break parts Toyota is using on the 3rd gens are pretty terrible. The drums being the worst. I’ve personally turned mine at work few times and work great for a while then again. Same with rotors turned 2 times and eventually replaced with Brembo rotors never again but drums are still on my to-do list to replace with aftermarket brand

I can’t really say much or anything specific since every issue might not need the same solution, but I think I can point some of you in the right direction.

The drums are probably not the issue for the braking vibrations. I would use a dial gauge on the axles were the drums mount to and carefully inspect total runout.........:spy:

And the reason why I’m pointing you guys in the direction of the axles is because that was the fix for my truck and two other close friends with 2017’s.

Mine continues to misfire. And in fact on some mornings it stalls rather badly pulling out onto my street in the morning. It will hesitate significantly for about 2 seconds before it starts to go. Best way to describe it is that it feels like a cold cwrburated engine that of you push down on the throttle too much when it’s cold, it stalls.

That's not good... I haven't had that issue under normal driving, only when ect was on and noticed worse mpg too. Seems like Toyota didn't do a good job with the tune on our trucks, very disappointed.
